Worth adding that there'll be an IRC meet on #brisbemani on Austnet to discuss the trip. All are welcome. Although the rough dates are set, we're discussing accomodation, hall hire (!), and I'd like to see who wants to stay longer than the alloted period - I've got two weeks off from the 1st of Feb, so...well I don't know yet, but I want to be in Melbourne for a week, minimum. A road trip for some of us is possible but not absolute. The majority are going by plane.

Just so people know, at the moment the accomodation is all but settled on the Victoria Hotel (near the Queen Victoria Markets, I think).

So how many people are attending this thing? I'm looking more for numbers and less for actual nicknames/names of people.

Damn, I wish we had something like this in NZ. Would also be pretty difficult to set one up considering I've only ever seen one other NZer on bemanistyle.

You're welcome to attend ours, the only thing limiting anyone attending really is the cost...I'm pretty sure there's other NZers around here though, I've definitely heard something about cabinets in Rotorua before.

As for numbers, I started a Facebook group thing for it, so you can keep track of what's happening easier. I'll still make sure info is posted normally, since not everyone likes Facebook.

If you have Facebook, this link should work for the event info:

Login | Facebook

The event name now is set to Bemanipalooza '10, I'll rename the thread in a few days so nobody gets confused. Invites are open, bbq_tool, so of course you're welcome.

Most of us aren't local so anything people can contribute to the console party is welcome. I don't fancy trying to bring my Konami ASC on the plane :P My controllers are all massive. Maybe a Keyboard Mania controller. Maybe I can find my PPP controller. Games are no problem. Other than that...!

Next, as I said, is event shirts. Like a rock concert, y'know. At this point due to time and money I'm thinking something like putting a design on Cafepress, people can buy it in the style and quantities they need, and all profits go towards a bar tab or equipment hire or something. I'd probably also just upload the original image used for it somewhere so people can do it for free, too. Suggestions/thoughts? The problem with screenprinting is we'd have to do it in bulk and know what size everyone is...money is tight right now for me because of this event (won't be a problem later), so it'd require contributions in advance. Has anyone got any better suggestions? Also if anyone has a design to submit, go nuts, probably best just to post it on the FB group though...

Hi all. An update on the console party for Bemanipalooza

via princesspeach1337
As you all know, as part of the event we intend on throwing a console party on Sunday the 7th of February, which at this stage will be held at Bemani Central, better known as The Victoria Hotel. I've spent the last couple of weeks gathering info and costing on the party, and should all go to plan, it'll be a hell of a night!

Problem is, we need cash. Throwing a party isn't cheap, especially in a licensed venue. See, unlike the console parties of yore, we need to rent everything in (aside from our consoles and games, which we can stuff in our suitcases). All our stuff needs to be booked, ordered and arranged in advance, and we can't do that without paying for it up-front. And so, I present the following copypasta

"Most importantly, we need NUMBERS. Definitive, hard-wired, locked-in numbers. So far I can count maybe three people I know of who are definitely going to be there, and definitely are going to contribute to the party fund. A Facebook "Accepted" is pretty useless these days and the last thing I want is to go ahead and book all this and then have to split the entire bill five ways or so. (And remember this has to be paid BEFORE the trip, you can't just turn up in Melbourne with a handful of cash for this.) I really can't afford to even consider covering this myself (my personal budget is $75, absolute max.) and so I really need the assurance that I'm going to get the financial backing for this, and that I'm going to get it soon."

For the record, so far the budget is looking like the room and equipment hire will total around $600, and then if we want to buy a drinks package (bottomless beer, wine, juice and soft-drink) we can order that up to a week in advance, and that'll cost about $20 a head for two hours. (Bearing in mind this is a licenced venue, but they do have a great bar!)

A few things though;

- The function will only go until midnight, max (they gotta get some sleep at some point too, you know!)
- The liquor license on the Hotel only goes until 11pm on Sunday nights
- We can't bring our own food in, and this even goes as far as banning your own snacks (this is such unfair BS though, I fully intend on bringing in a suitcase of nibbles)

In other news, keep spreading the word about Bemanipalooza around the community! If there's any people you think that should know about this, tell them! Send them a link to the group, or any of the main Bemani forums in Australia; just do it! Anyone with a keen interest in music gaming and good times is welcome! There'll be plenty to do, heaps to see and general Melbourne shenannigans afoot so book those flights soon and let us all know when you're locked in. (Oh and stay tuned to the RTF Forums for all the happenings as they arise )

Phew. I'm done now. Who needs a drink...

- Trisha

tl;dr
we need
- confirmed numbers on who will be there
- and how much you can pitch in for this party

we gotta place the booking really soon. our alternative is not at all (which is an option)

I think most of us are sorted and this now under a week away...so bump. No console party, but everything else is still on...I'll be down from the 3rd if people want to put contracts on my life or something.

Bump

We're doing another one this year - probably a fair amount of you know already (Facebook and stuff)...

Login | Facebook

Basically details are similar, but:

- Officially it is 18th-21st February (over the weekend)
- A lot of us will be around between 16th-23rd February
- Victoria Hotel again is the preferred accomodation, no complaints last time (and I'm the one that got locked out!). See Melbourne hotels motels serviced apartments accommodation discounts - they seem to be the best for prices. It's located one block/2 mins from Bleugh House.
- Usually around lunchtime on a weekday Virgin Blue have 'happy hour'.
- No schedule, no agenda, just a bunch of Bemani weirdos mucking around.

Lots of Brisbane folk will be there, hopefully some from other States too. Represent y0. Soz for the short notice...

EDIT: Oh, and probably the words 'Oldschool DDR' in the original topic are irrelevant now but I can't edit it. 'Bemani' is descriptive enough. Most of us started on DDR, many of us haven't finished on DDR, who cares if you have or haven't or never played DDR? Common interest all the same.
