G4 Is At It Again

Turn off your TV!

Look at all this free advertising *that network* is getting right here on this site... you're all talking about it, watching clips from it on youtube (and although I realize the network doesn't directly benefit from that, it goes to increase awareness of it... hence why they offer up their own clips of shows in a buffet of vodcasts they do) , and some of you are indirectly threatning to watch it again to make sure they don't review another music game.

Don't get me wrong, I think that network is full of crap too and I agree with you guys but if you want to hit 'em where it counts, turn your TV off or at least change the channel. Go watch Spike TV, their biggest competitior right now. Get on the internet and download independent pod & vodcasts for the real game reviews you want from actual gamers and not people who are paid to look pretty and be funny towards a general audience in an attempt to "get guys" for the advertisers. No ratings = no more advertisers = no more show.

Just my two cents.

Frankly - I'm appalled that they even considered that a review.

It wasn't even scripted silliness - it was just outright retardation. I've seen better drivel issuing from the mouth of a newborn. There was no information, no actual gameplay (whoever was playing the game needs to take a few lessons in coordination), and generally no worth of any kind.

Frankly, I'm not mad they made 'fun' (I use the term very loosely), it's that they pretty much wasted 3 minutes of otherwise useful oxygen on that junk.

Grow up, please. If you want wit, read Don Quixote. If you want metered rubbish, spend your time drinking weedkiller. At least then you'll actualy be accomplishing something....

The first 38 seconds for the review on Beatmania has me thinking up on a few points....

1. Why are they calling "Beatmania" a disease? Come on assholes, it is JUST a name for a game, dammit! People play it because they like the game, not because they are afflicted with mania! *Refer to my Runescape thread for this*

2. Why are they associating Winston Churchill with mania or even with this review? If I, a Singaporean, can give Winston Churchill( A war hero since he was one of the ministers responsible for ending World War 2) some respect, why can't they, at least being Westerners, do so too?

3. Why can they give such bullshit on TV? Is it due to a form of misguided "freedom of speech"? Damn, I reckon I know way better about RESPONSIBLE freedom of speech!

I guess this should make me really angry but yeah... I dunno its like, what do you expect from a second rate channel that has its primary fans playing the newest iteration of GTA 23: Alaska version. If they wanna rip on these games and make fun of them well that is certainly their perogative. While I totally disagree and love beatmania, para para, and all of these Japansese music games, that is also my opinion. Thats the beauty of freedom of speach. If you don't like what x-play has to say, don't listen to them.

If you don't like what they have said and feel strongly about it, do what the original post advocates. Let your voice be heard. You have a voice too. Rip on them for being misinformed, infantile, whatever. That is only fair. But saying things like "they should be sued" and stuff like that is kinda out of line. They have a voice too, it's just they chose to use it in a pretty ignorant way.

Either way I guess you have to take this stuff with a grain of salt. If these games were popular in mainstream America we probably wouldn't have sites like Bemanistyle and wouldn't need to congregate about the niche games we love like this. No big. I don't expect most people to understand why I like the games or the music involved, most people are content to listen to their rock or r&b music, heavily american, and thats totally fine. I guess the thing I'm trying to say is, play it cool .

Technically, we could file a report with the FCC over stuff like this. The blatant hatred against other cultures, gay bashing, and handicap jokes. I'd be willing to start filing a complaint, if anyone else would back it up. Maybe a petition to G4?

I saw that review on ParaPara Paradise which they pronounced it "Pair-a Pair-a"

and for a second I thought the game was coming out here, and was happy because I had NO idea, but later found out they were just talking about it to feel space, and diss it!

They don't. What a lot of you fail to understand is that X-Play is in a lot of ways built around teasing certain communities, and is an entertainment show first and foremost. Every time they tear the shit out of an Inuyasha game I bet a lot of anime forums go nuts, and they get a kick out of it. That's fine. It also sounds oddly familiar to what's happening right here. I myself like to irritate people on the internet because I think it's funny that they're getting angry over an intangible that doesn't actually harm them one way or the other, and so does X-Play. Their "dislike" of your favorite game doesn't invalidate your right to enjoy it, and I can't think of anyone who uses X-Play as their primary source of gaming information anyway so to say that their review of a niche music game had a direct impact on sales seems a little off.

This is on par with the bullshit Jack Thompson spews or minority groups complaining about a line of text in GTA, San. If you're going to censor one thing you don't like, well, fuck it, let's get rid of all the rest too.
