G4 Is At It Again

I sent a letter to them about their disctinct lack of research, and signed the petition.

I agree with DJP. I know that most people don't like BMUS for whatever reason. But watch that review again. There is nothing but 5 key play on there, and that's barely half the game.... Maybe they woulda liked V, Nemesis, or Colors if they had bothered to really PLAY the game they were going to review.

I think the big point that G4 is missing is that if they are going to call themselves videogame reviewers, I think that obligates them to do a little research before they spew their opinions all over the place.

I only rarely watched G4 before seeing these, but I definitely won't watch it anymore.

Still, after seeing this, I'm glad G4 isn't broadcast in my country. At least Game One (my local VG channel) made a difference and made sense when they talked about musical games (double getit!)

I'm not gonna pour my wrath at them though... but if I have to mail them, I'd say something like "After seeing all of this I'm glad I can't watch G4 in my country".

Wow, I'm still trying to grasp as to the merits of actually writting back to X-Play. Everyone already knows that they'll use it against us in the court of public opinion, thus bringing our illustrious and excelled community down into their sophmoric level. That right there is called "acting on your own emotions," now I know some of you don't want me to call it like it is, but that's the truth. Every and I mean EVERY niche game community, whether it be music gaming or anime goes through the same vicious cycle of getting their game bashed in a nationally televised entertainment show by the folks feeding Adam Sessler's lines, just because some pissant of a intern/game reviewer has a small, narrow-minded perception of gaming. And guess what, it only fuels the fire by responding to their critisism, thus making us look really horrible.

There's an old saying that goes: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words may never hurt me". If we really wanted to make a difference, we could just ignore them and write our own independent reviews since they don't represent the true gamer; all they represent are ass-kissing slaves to the almighty dollar. If your asking how I do this: contribute your true "fair and balanced" opinion to gaming sites, making efforts to muffle out the crap that X-Play spews. Honestly, we gotta stop bickering about this little thing and start focusing on spreading the impartial opinions to the masses, so that we can break the rest of the unaware X-Play breatheren out of this vicisious cycle of mind slavery and show everyone else that we don't give into nonsense.

They never really did outline the actual bad parts of Beatmania.

PPD's review wasn't so bad I guess, cuz they mainly diss the music choice, which I am totally for in some cases, but it does kinda tick me off.

And as for those who say "Turn of the TV" or "Change the channel", these reviews give people who enjoy these games a bad image, and is a little under racism, and shouldn't be done. It is very discriminating.

And there's no point to e-mailing them because to them, it's junk mail because humans always think they are right, and they would never read anything that would make them look bad on live TV. Unless they all of a sudden got into the game a lot and wanted to apologize for being so rude.

I'm going to second the group saying "just ignore this". Here's a question: how many of you guys even watch G4? Why the fuck would the opinions of some station you're unaware of 99% of the time matter? And as I seem to recall one person saying during the bmUS bits: "Frankly, the people who are going to listen to them call IIDX a Guitar Hero clone are the ones we don't want playing IIDX."

But yes. Everybody calm down, why the fuck are people jumping down one another's throats over subjective tastes in humor, and hey, let's all just realize G4 needs to troll us for advertising. They don't have enough of a budget left to get it otherwise.

Uh, okay. Please confirm that that was an exaggeration, because if you honestly believe mocking a group of people over a game is on the level of racism, or close to it, you're taking your Bemani waaaaaay too seriously. Not that you'd be the only one, but still.

To tell you the truth, if I was someone without any knowledge of japanese or rhythm gaming, like a ton of people are (and apparently G4), I'd think that beatmania was a guitar hero spinoff too.

Even I don't find beatmania too appealing for the masses of American gamers. The reason Guitar Hero is so popular is because we've all heard the songs and was made with American gamers in mind. It's easy to pick up and play.

Beatmania on the other hand has a steep learning curve and a pretty tough timing window. The songs aren't attractive to the average American gamer.

That's why I believe that G4 didn't really drop the ball with this review as much as you think. Sure they got the history wrong, but you have to understand that they review games for the American public, which doesn't have a large Bemani fanbase (relatively speaking). They're talking to all of the Madden and GTA lovers, not the Disegea and IIDX lovers. That's what you all seem to be forgetting.
