The only way I think Konami can potentially win the battle against RO with this is to also release Drummania in the US (Just call it Percussion Revolution or something) and have it co-incide with the release of Guitar Revolution.
I think if Konami release Drummania over here before anyone else gets the genius idea to release a drum rhythm game (That stupid MTV arcade game DOES NOT COUNT), they can probably one up RO with it. It'd be a good strategic move.
Heck, take those two games and couple them with a release of Karaoke Revolution and you've got yourself a pretty good marketing point. Too bad you can't session multiple PS2s together in the same room. Otherwise Konami could advertise them all in one ad and say "Form your own rock band with Karaoke Revolution, Guitar Revolution and Percussion Revolution" | I totally agree with you, they could combat RO if they did indeed release drummania with this, I mean GF and DM go hand in hand. And if their was a KR that went with it some how, RO would be blown away and everyone would see BEMANI is the king of music games.

Too bad MTV has a hold on the patent for video game drum simulators here in the US.

I mean, it's been a peeve of mine lately how largely ignorant the majority of Americans are. It kinda emphasizes how dependant pop culture is on mainstream, don't you think? Most people I know think Guitar Hero is a godsend and that it is absolutely perfect, but they don't know jack about what's going on in Japan. They too said IIDX was a GH rip-off.
And that's just silly. | |

Most of GF's appeal to me is its ability to session with DM (which I'm much more fond of); if it's released by itself, it's going to get compared negatively to GH. Heck, I even like GH better than GF and I'm wap as hell; a lot of people who don't immediately dismiss it as a "Guitar Hero ripoff" are probably going to be turned off by the ass-backwards play mechanics. Now, if they got DM out, then maybe they'd have a thing. People would love that.

Especially since drumscape isn't actually a game. It's more like Karaoke for drums, there are no note paterns or anything to follow, you just pick a song and hit a bunch of drumpads.

They too said IIDX was a GH rip-off. | Why should they know about video games that have never seen a release in their territory before except in limited circumstances? I wouldn't be surprised if a big motivator for why this is in the works is because GH was extremely successful, and you're being willfully ignorant if you try to disagree. There's nothing wrong with that; a lot of people will doubtless be pleased when they see that something similar to Guitar Hero is available and will pick it up since they've burned through GH over the last year.
And for fuck's sake, let the Beatmania shit go already. Every single preview I saw for Hero acknowledged that it was in effect a carbon-copy of the Guitar Freaks gameplay structure, with the previewer saying how happy they were about it since they really liked Guitar Freaks. Quote: |

| I think they might have patented the idea of having a scoring system to go along with it but I'm really not sure. There may well be a loophole in there somewhere but I've never heard of it yet. If they could find a way to release a DM game here I'd definitely be pleased. | |

Anyway, as much as I'd like to see a domestic release of drummania, I think the best part of this announcement so far is that there will be cheap Guitar Freaks controllers available without having to get noned on shipping (like with BMUS). So, everybody with a buddy that wants to play Bass with them on GF V (like me XD) can pick a second controller up without having to pay $10-20 for shipping.

1. Who'd buy a Guitar Hero "ripoff"?
2. who'd buy a guitar simulation game which has LESS simulation features than another one (plus, it's a "ripoff")?
3. Who'd buy a game with totally unknown songs when they can play their favorite rock hits on Guitar Hero? (And we all know that Guitar Revolution it's a crappy "ripoff")
It's just the lot of us, imho..
And if they don't sell much they won't import much, will they?
At least, this is what I think, even though I hope for the best..

(Again, the best thing they can do is make it not so bleedin' hard to get a high score registered.) The fact that they can't include Drummania really hurts; DM is by far the more forgiving game, and a large part of why I didn't toss 3rd/2nd and 4th/3rd in the trash after three weeks.
Y'know what? I don't care. If it succeeds, great. If it flops, at least they tried, which is more than Pop 'n Music or Drummania is ever going to get. The thing is, nobody has any idea how big a detriment being seen as a GH ripoff is going to be. Seems to me that for something this offbeat, any name recognition will help more than hurt. Anyway, if the American market isn't ready for something like this, that's just how it is. It won't stop me from enjoying Masterpiece Silver one bit.
I can understand hoping and praying for IIDX 7th Style to be a success because there was so much at stake there. I can't say the same for this little speculative venture.
Oh, I took another look at the SuperNOVA gateway. Right now, all I got to say is...day-um, is someone paying Emi to wear all those pleated microskirts?
