Wow. So soon. November, December, whenever, that didn't take long.
Cool. In the three months or so I've been playing this in the arcade, it's become one of my all-time favorites, and
because it's so bright and cheerful and colorful. Not to mention an astonishingly diverse music list even for Bemani (Toe Jam! Little Little Princess! Sigsig! Rakuen!). I never understood why Beatmania was supposed to be this miserable, colorless experience, nor why it needed to avoid any comparison to Pop 'n Music, assuming that's even freaking possible.
The fact is, cuteness and listenability and melody always has been and always will be a part of IIDX, and this has always been one of its main draws for me. I'm not the least bit ashamed to admit that it took me a while to get into Red (even 10th didn't take too long) precisely because it was the "technically best" or "most musically correct" Style at the cost of diversity. There was no instant grab; no 19, November, Still My Words, Rislim, Fantasy, Sweet Lab, Everyday Lovelyday, or Honey. Happy Sky is full of them; heck, the barebones no-unlocks-whatsoever list had at least six.
The only sad thing is that I won't have much of a reason to go to HB's anymore unless they decide to upgrade to Distorted, and that's doubtful. Other than that, this is going to rule like nothing other. I think it's wonderful that Konami finally did away with all the pretense and BS and made it just a really fun music game again. And yes, I feel exactly the same way about Distorted.
(P.S. I know that the notecharts are getting way too freakin' hard, but whaddya gonna do at this point.
