Do you need to get agreements from the official developers before you make a 3rd party controller commercially? I would assume you would? That or you would have to make it drastically different.
Any real lawyers lurking on bemani boards by any chance? Read through the case etc...

The only reason ITG was even made was because DDR was doing nothing as far as trying to do anything different. I give Roxor an A for effort atleast.

So anyway, I wonder what Harmonix has to say about this. I wonder if they even care? I suppose it might not involve them too much since the issue seems to be on the hardware side.

They both are almost exact copies of DDR and Guitar Freaks which Konami originally designed and patented. Konami has been graciously lenient on the issue. However, if you show no mercy to someone who makes custom Guitar Hero controllers, Konami may turn around and sue you for copyright infringement like you are doing to those who make custom controllers for your product which originally should not belong to you.

Edit: Plus when you consider the fact that Kyle Ward has been known to sign burned DVD copies of the game and I believe at one point said that he didn't care what people did to ITG once they bought it (in regards to hacking machines to add more songs), and that Kyle Ward is a relatively big person behind ITG, I can't see how you can draw any parallel here.
