About making threads for criticism

I find it irritating that threads asking for people to judge simfiles (weather it be for stepmania or any other rythym game) get closed. The reason given is because there is a comment box for each simfile. Truth is, many songs are overlooked or ignored for several reasons, one being that the song/title may not be appealing to others.

Constructive criticism allows the user to gain more knowledge on how to properly make song charts for others to enjoy. Allowing users to ask for feedback on their simfiles on the forums would enable more people to look at their work and give tips etc.

Right now people are limited to the comment box which hardly anyone posts in unless it's a really popular song (which doesn't do justice to the decent song charts out there).

Amen, man. I totally agree with you. However, this has been brought up several times in the past IIRC, and every time it has been turned down. I'm not sure why the administrators don't want to open up a forum for posting/discussing simfiles, or at least allow it in the DDR simulation forum.

There are just over 21,000 simfiles in the database, and only around 24,000 comments. That's about 1 comment per simfile on average. However, I would guarantee that at least half of the simfiles in the database have absolutely no comments. Another thing is that you rarely get a comment that is actually constructive, or helpful in any way whatsoever. Most of them are one sentence and say how much they love you, or love the song, or say how they thought the file rocked, but don't give any clue as to what you did right. Also, I rarely see negative comments that are actually helpful. Most of them are people whining about something they don't like even though it's probably correct.

Whatever, there are always other sites to go to for discussing simfiles, but to be honest, I really like BMS, and I wish I could openly discuss simfiles with people here.

Allowing everyone to make threads for their sims would result in a Simulation forum that would be absolutely glutted to the point of uselessness with criticism threads. If you want to advertise your files, then put a link in your signature and participate in the community. If you want to make a discussion thread on choreography theory or whatever the fuck then go ahead and try that. File-by-file discussion isn't happening outside of comments.

Uh, a place where everyone can get criticism on their simfile making ability seems to me like the antithesis of glutted uselessness. Why not make a subforum for them if it concerns you so?

Given the large number of people wanting this, even if this did exist and you made your thread, so many other people making their threads would quickly bump yours off the first few pages. That's what I think he's getting at.

Initially, maybe, but I don't think BMS's forum gets that level of traffic otherwise.

posting a link in your signature gets about the same amount of attention as searching through simfiles.

perhaps put up a thread with people willing to test files with their sending information? also patashu is right and topics will most likely get bumped if the author needs more feedback etc.

There's a big question regarding to comments. Why does most people rate and not comment the sims at all? There's even some who rate but don't download the sim in Bemanistyle at all.

Laziness. An easy fix for that would be -requiring- that a comment be left before you can rate a file.

I also mentioned that people have rated sims instead of even looking at the stepfiles and audio. Here is what it says if these are true.

"You cannot rate this simfile because:
1. Your account is too new. Your account must be 2 weeks old to rate a simfile.
2. You made the simfile
3. You are not logged in
4. This file is an Official Simfile"

Can you add this? - "5. You haven't downloaded the simfile"

there shouldn't really be any restrictions since the artist is obviously trying to get as much attention as possible for his new version of quasar fury of the storm everyone must play.
