What's up with the advertising on the simfile pages?

I noticed today that there were ads on the individual simfile pages (under the single/double difficulty table). Is anyone else seeing these ads? If so (and you have any feedback about them), post it here. (I have poll on the thread, too).

Also, I have some question for one of the administrators here about these specific ads.

1. Are they going to be here for a long time (6 months or more)?
2. Will people get ad-free priviliges if they donate to the site? If so, will it be a one-time donation or a recurring (monthly/yearly) donation?
3. If the BemaniStyle community as a whole donates enough money, will the ads go away?

I hope one of the admins answers these questions.

As for me, I definitely don't like the ads. I find them more poorly placed, than say, an ad on the top of the page (or the sides). However, I can live with them as long as BemaniStyle exists. In addition, I wouldn't be willing to pay extra (on a monthly or yearly basis) for them to not be shown, but I would not rule out donating to the site (just because of all the good things on here).

They're a little obnoxious. I especially don't like having some dumb ad for mobile ringtones or something right next to my work because I hate that kind of stuff and having them just on the simfile pages makes it seem a bit tacky.

You gotta do what you gotta do to pay the bills, I guess, but I'd have preferred seeing advertising somewhere other than right next to the files produced by people who give up their time to contribute to the site.

Anyway, I voted that I can tolerate them, because I can. But I don't like them.

edit: I think in reflection, it really depends on why the site hosts simfiles in the first place. Is it to attract more visitors to the site, or is it more of a public service to allow people to host their files? Who's doing who the service here?

We're just doing it to try it out for now. We want to see how it works out. We can block out certain types of ads also. So if there's some we really don't like we don't have to have them show up.

The simfiles gets more hits out of anything on the website and most of the hits are from people that don't contribute anything to the site.

I currently have it set up so that simfiles that are sponsored for more than $1.00 don't have ads (however the amount may change). I'm probably going to also make it so if you donate more than a certain amount the ads won't show up, but I'm going to wait to do that until I decide if it's permanent or not.

We'll see what happens in the future, currently I don't know. It all depends on how much money it brings in. We're still struggling to pay just for the server and bandwidth hosting and we really want to buy 2 new servers.

Oh yea, I just implemented a new feature for now. For every ad you click on in the simfiles, you get a token. shhh

I think it would be better if you put the ads at the bottom of the page (Below the comment box), if possible.

I was just wondering, is there any reason that the same kind of ad appears 10 or so pages( e.g. 10 vonage ads in a row)?

It is kind of annoying when I am looking for non flash ads to mouse wheel click to get tokens...but then again I shouldn't complain. After all they are easy tokens.

OK these ads on the front page are horrible.

"Sex dates in [insert home town]?????????!!!!!!!!!!"

...no.

I thought bemanistyle WASN'T in support of NSFW images, and the "sex date" text is big enough to read like 10 meters away. And isn't selling prostitutes for use illegal? Hmm, last time I remember illegal stuff like "happy sky for pc" wasn't tolerated.

So wtf is wrong?

I'm going to request not to show those ads.

The way the ad system works is it shows ads that get clicks. So if those ads keep showing up, most likely it's because people are clicking on them. Also the ads at the top only have a 1 in 10 chance at even showing up, and chances of it saying sex dates or whatever is even lower. That is, unless people keep clicking on them.

Also we don't create the ads or anything, another company is in charge of the ads, so I don't see how this relates to Happy Sky. Not only that buy an ad that says "sex dates" isn't illegal.
