Building a Drummania ASC Hey guys,
Myself and a friend are planning on building a DM ASC over the weekend. We are trying to make it very similar to how the arcade controllers work.
In the arcade, when you hit a drum, the pad vibrates enough to trigger what is basically the insides of a Piezo buzzer, acting as a sort of vibration switch. The two of us tried, without success, to use this setup when building a Taiko no Tatsujin ASC for TGA. Looking back on it now, the way we rigged up the switches was moreso at fault than what we actually used.
My question is this: Can anybody shed some light on how/where the sensors are mounted on a drummania arcade drum? Neither of us can seem to remember how they are positioned and how they are adhered to the drum.
The other plan we are tossing around is handmade switches similar to how homemade DDR pads are done...two pieces of 24-gauge metal that complete a circuit when pressure is applied. The problem with this is it requires insulating the entire perimeter of the drum, which means you have to strike the center of the drum everytime, making rimshots impossible. |
