Question Buying a machine/parts?

The arcade nearest me has a GuitarFreaks 1st Mix cabinet with a broken cd-rom drive, and the owner says that he will probably be selling it. I've looked around online, but I can't seem to find any information on what kind of drive it needs, so I'm asking here. Can anyone tell me what kind of cd-rom drive a GF 1st mix uses and where to get one? Also, What is a reasonable price for said machine?

Since it's old I'm guessing it's probably just a regular cd-rom drive? I really wouldn't know. I've only seen the inside of a guitar freaks machine once.

You should probably check around on channel beat and see what they can do for you.

It really depends on the board though. I remember the arcade that I used to go to didn't have Guitar Freaks 11th mix because somethign was wrong with the board itself. Which took forever to get back.

From what the owner has told me, he's tried several drives, so there's a good chance it's proprietary.

That's the first place I looked. Oddly enough, they don't sell Guitarfreaks parts at all. Nor does Coinopexpress.

Email them? They might have some even though they don't show it.

If not, just wait for somehere who does know the inside of a machine and they can tell you.

It does run on just a normal CD-rom drive but you have to get one old enough so it can spin slow enough to run it right.

Look for one made around 1998 or 1999. I don't know anything about speeds though.

The screen wills spin and battle music will start to play. You and drunk friends will be forced to stand in a line rocking back and forth holding over sized swords. A group of retarded looking monsters will appear and you will take turns hitting each other. When it is all over you will get 648 Gil and a fire ring. Why the 12 foot tall monster with no hands had a fire ring that fits everyone from you to your grandma will still be mystery to man.

Okay, yeah, I didn't even think of that. I've got no shortage of old cd-rom drives laying around, I'll see if I can get him to try a few 1x and 4x ones. Thanks for the info

some machines have a lockout chip, but i'm not sure if GF 1st mix has it. you can try another drive, otherwise you can but an upgrade kit, which usually comes with one.

CD-ROM drive

Features:

* Originally Single Speed, later replaced with a Two Speed drive, with a maximum data throughput of 300 kB/s
* XA Mode 2 Compliant
* CD-DA (CD-Digital Audio)
This is the CD-rom drive info on wiki about the Playstation and System 573 is PS powered so look for somthing around this.

Important info bolded in and underlined. Basicaly look for somthing that is x1 or x2 Speed.
