Default Cheapest controller for dm that doesn't suck?

So, I'm tired of this shitty Topway drummania controller (LOL), and I was wondering what the cheapest "ASC" for drummania is? I know people have mentioned the YAMAHA DTX line, but I've seen quite a few of them, and I don't know anything about drums. I could care less about them having speakers, amps, etc., and all of those extra things they do aside from letting me play drummania CS games. I've also noticed they all have many more pieces on them than actually usable in drummania. They're also really big...

So...what I'm asking here is, what GF&dm CS compatable drumset is closest to the arcade in size, number of cymbals/drums/etc, and playability? I'm assuming something that fit this description would be cheaper than something that didn't, as everything I've seen ends up having MORE features than aforementioned.

Thanks in advance.

Your two options for the most part are the Topway/Konami controller (they're basically identical in shape) or a MIDI drumkit such as a DTX or other type. If you want arcade similarity in terms of positioning and size, a DTX or other full-size kit is pretty much your only choice. I've heard of other people using little mini MIDI kits that are basically the same size as the KOC, but then what's the point, and why not just use a KOC?

Anyway, yeah. There's a pretty big gap there.

As far as your comment about something that's similar to the arcade in size and playability but with no extra features, I'm not sure anything like that exists. The only kits I'm aware of that even approach arcade-size are all the fancy drum kits with all the bells and whistles. :/

I see...I figured there must've existed something out there that I just hadn't found, but apparently not.

So what's the cheapest large size drumset? I'm assuming something like yours, or was yours a higher end model? If it's the lowest end, how much do they run for? I recall you getting yours for like 400...if that's the cheapest, what's it called? If not, what is the cheapest?

On a side note, I really hate the way this post turned out, LOL.

I got mine for $400 because it was pretty much one of the oldest model DTXes made (released in like 1998) and it was used by two previous owners. Still in basically perfect shape but it lowered the price a ton.

I saw another DTX 2.0 with one previous owner go at the same time for like $550 so my deal isn't typical. Anyhow, the cheapest DTXes you'll find are probably the original DTX or the DTX 2.0, with the DTXpress being the next cheapest one.

Bafo soul can be found in drumxtreme.info, they are europe's pacific digital distributor, using their brand, DrumXtreme. buy the one with midi module & order a Yamaha UX16 in order to connect your PS2 and midi module. its aroud $400 maybe. The size similar to arcade style (a bit smaller i think) but not as good as arcade.

If you want to get real feel of arcade, then u must buy DTXplorer or DTXpress III as recommended by konami itself. But, u will not regret to buy this kit, and yeah, i call em lifetime investation you will not looking for another controller once you have it, definitely an arcade perfect or i even can say better than arcade itself.

Im not just talking bout these, I have a topway, then upgrade to Drumxtreme, and now using DTXplorer

In the DTX series, just the DTXpress III and DTXplorer are in production. Everything else (older models) are phased out. You can't even find I and II spec pages on Yamaha's site anymore.
But you can find original DTXpresses and even some DTXPress IIs that are really cheap used. I've seen them go as low as 300-500s based on how used they are. Try looking at local classified sites like Craigslist.

Are all of Yamaha's DTX line of drumsets USB? If not, how do you connect them to your PS2?

Thanks!

All the DTX drumsets have midi in/outputs (and most electronic drumsets). You need to buy a midi-to-USB adapter. The only adapter that works for sure with PS2 DM is the Yamaha UX-16 MIDI USB adapter. Those cost around $40-50. ANY drumset with midi in/out ports will work on DM with the UX-16 adapter.

You plug in the USB port into the PS2 and the DM games (DM3, DMV, DM masterpiece silver) will recognize it. Make sure to flip the connection ports. So the midi out port goes into the midi in on the drumset, and in to out (it doesn't make sense logically, but that's how it's done).

I'd stick with any Bemani product, just to be safe.
