Is there any way to burn your own custom keyboardmania cd's? Like, with your own custom songs mapped to work in keyboardmania? I have no idea but it'd be nice to know since konami seems to have stopped developing new keyboardmania songcds.
Yeah, those aren't just song packs, there's only two published and they're considered to be full games. KBM II has a few extra features compared to the original, but getting those two games should pretty much cover you so far as songs go. There were no arcade releases beyond KBM 3rd, and KBM II for PS2 has most of if not all the songs from 2nd and 3rd in the arcade.

As to custom KBM CDs: we wish.

The innards of KBM are proprietary, so developing append CDs for the game would require first reverse-engineering the entire game. It would be much more straightforward to simply re-implement the game for PC.

Unfortunately, KBM has a small enough following that there hasn't been a really good KBM simulator developed yet - hence the original poster's hoping that MAME will get KBM working. (That I know of. If I'm wrong, please hit me over the head and tell me, because I'm part of that tiny following and I should be contributing to the project.)
Well thanks for clearing that up. Do you know if the konami/yamaha pc version of KBM supports custom KBM CDs?

If you decide to try with the mame version, I'd be glad to hear about it!

But the EZ-250i has been taken out of line. Is there anybody still selling it?

My bad - I thought you were talking only about KBM for PS2. Rmz is correct that KBM for PC does have added song functionality.

Unfortunately, in all the time I've been watching eBay for Bemani, I've only seen the EZ-250i (and associated software) up for sale once.

KBM PC will let you play any MIDI file you feed it

By the way, I have both the PS2 KBM games, the KBM controller and EZ-250i with KBM PC. If you have any KBM questions I'll be able to answer them
