Tripmachina, yeah, as Mogura said, I basically meant that Silver and Gold should be automatic buys and have priority over the other mixes since their songlists are pretty much balanced with good songs on either game. I'd say if you had to choose which to pick first though, go with Gold. Its more enjoyable to unlock than Silver, and I enjoy the songlist a bit more than Silver I think.

So yeah, V is good. They're all good. V and V2 are the worst of the bunch, but V is definitely not worse than V2. V has Wild Challenger, and Sakuranbo, and Jet Love, and Funky Sonic World, and NGS, and Heaven's Cocktail, and Kaleidescope, and Onihime, and Homesick Part.1&2, and You'll Be a Man, and Nocturne No.9, and The Least 100Sec., and Mushroom Boy, and Going Up, and...that song with the girl with the big yellow hair that says 'There is not a good boy!'
V2 has Sing-a-Well, The Legend, and Rolling1000toon...
Oh, and I haven't played 4th. | The only song I don't like from that list is Jet Love and You'll Be a Man, so his taste isn't "strange" or anything. Out of the non-compilations (CS ver. of arcade games), I think that V is the best (haven't played V3 yet... ;3)
As said before, V has a very strong track list, from the very easy to the very hard. Moreover, most of the songs on there are FUN to play, and most importantly, sound great. I still spam Plastic Umbrella when I play V4
My only gripe of GFDMV is that a lot of the songs are underrated, which makes it hard to get SP... but that's only important to the perfectionists out there. V2 has an okay track list, but the thing is... there aren't that many songs; a lot of them are repeats, too :/
V2 also has the most annoying song evar -- Green Lime
PS: I unlocked Timepiece via roulette. I celebrated by failing it 5 times in a row <3
Edit: I think the song you're talking about is "hitoribocchi" ひとりぼっち
EditEdit: I couldn't resist anymore... just bought the game ;p

And You'll Be a Man is mostly on that list for humor value, though I do genuinely like it.
Also, Fairy Tales. Somehow forgot that one.
V is a very hit or miss style. It has some of my favorite songs in the series, and some I couldn't care less about. The MP game are more well rounded.

Your sense of taste in guitarfreaks songs is spotty at best. You mention a few decent songs and then mention some weird and crazy ones.
| That did sound harsh. I like Little Prayer, Wonderful Workers, Mushroom Boy, that ino-koi song, Sakuranbo, White Tornado, Ancient Breeze, Fairy Tales, and Die Zauberflote, I don't think because it's spotty, but because those are the songs I personally enjoy. Otherwise, I really do think V CS sucks.
Everyone has their quirks and things they feel is decent and normal to them.
But anyway, let's continue on, sorry.

V is a very hit or miss style. It has some of my favorite songs in the series, and some I couldn't care less about. The MP game are more well rounded. | I prefer Green Lime to Yellow Panic Time in terms of how good it sounds, but the notechart is rather stupid for a mid80s (GF). Srsly, nothing more annoying than having combo-breakers strewn throughout the song... also, do notice that 80-85% of that mid80s rating comes from THOSE COMBO-BREAKERS; the rest of the song is very simple. Captivate bass, on the other hand... nyoro~n
In terms of "great-sounding tracks", I'd have to say that masterpiece gold takes the cake. It is, after all, Gold... :p
However, in terms of overall enjoyability - the game w/ the best (GF) charts - I'd actually have to say GFDMV: it's the most balanced game of all CS releases. From what I remember of GFDMV3's song list, it's tailored more to the higher difficulty range. Although there are some songs that are simple and fun, there isn't really much mixing between the "easy" and "insanely difficult" range.
V4 widens the gap moar... *sigh*

I can't even pass Green Lime on GF, so I wont say anything. Yellow Panic Time is ok(I got skill on it :3) but on bass? I don't think that's a 29.
I can't really make a good opinion on the CS release I have since I encounted so many controller problems(shipping is a beast to here) I tend to lean towards the mix with the least. Masterpiece Gold has some excellent songs on there but at the same time there are songs I barely play. The ee'mall stuff was a definite plus on that song mix, I cannot get enough of memories. Unlock system wasn't bad at all either. Actually felt fair, compared to what I've heard about Silver.
I also play a lot of V2. The interface for that one was good and the unlock system sort of frustrating. It revolved around some battle percent things that I had terrible luck at, but that just meant unlocking 5 songs at once XD I loved the V2 songlist because of the Japanese artists on there(The local art? :OOO). It might be an average mix though. I don't play GF on it much because the double pick has issues on my GH controller.
Oh and with good songs it's all opinion. You can't tell someone they like a "bad song". Just taste in my opinion, in which all is different.

Old niche games (and music games are niche, don't anyone tell you otherwise) are notoriously hard to find, and they get harder and harder the more time passes. It took me about a year to find a Drummania 1, and I had to shell out $50 for it.
Don't worry about all the talk about "good" or "bad" songs. Only you can decide. Personally, I loved V's list. Sakuranbo? Delightful. Friends? Charming. Handsome Kyodai Made in Japan? Cheerfully punky, always fun to play. Hitori Bochi? Another winner, and a nice challenge on Advanced. Wild Challenger? Good, clean machoness, great to listen to. Taratta Dance? Simply beautiful, one of my favorite Gitadora songs ever. You might disagree with some of this. On the other hand, you might appreciate Nyan Da Furu 55 even more than me. It all depends, and in the end, there's only one way for you to find out.

I've been enjoying my current mixes for months, so I'm definitely hoping for even greater content in the games in which I'll be getting. =)
