I advice everyone who gets an ASC NOT to sticker it up for about 3 weeks to a month, and then add the stickers. You will see the difference and love me for it.

My first experience with GFDM was when I took a trip to Toronto (2.5-3hours away) because a girl I liked really wanted to play ParaParaParadise and I knew of a machine up there.
While she played that I was amazed at Drummania players, though, at the time, I didn't realize how much easier auto-bass made it, and *everyone* used it. I thought it was acceptable to do. I gave it a try, failed miserably, gave up on it. Later I found out how to access speed mods, and now that I can actually read charts in GF and DM, I'm just enthralled.

The catalyst for it was actually 2 years ago, when I saw Lost In Translation. I thought the movie sucked, but the idea of modern Tokyo/Japan was entertaining enough to me that I watched it. There were approximately 2 cool scenes in that entire movie. One is when Bill Murray's character is in a cab and you see some nice light scenery, the 2nd is the arcade scene. There was about 4 seconds of some Yakuza looking Japanese dude playing what looked like a Guitar Simulation arcade - and he looked quite relaxed but bopping to the beat as if it was too easy. I thought that was cool.
2 years later I'm in Osaka for a 3 month exchange program. About a month in my friends somehow walk me into an arcade and I see it - A GF V3 arcade and a Drum Mania alongside it! I think I was actually hooked from the moment I started scrolling through songs and recognizing a few of them. My friend and I even joked if I was late to something, or if I talked about wasting money, "I was probably playing Guitar." I probably spent $200-$250 on that machine in 2 months.
It was impossible to find a Guitar there (I went to 5+ stores and wasted 2 whole days), so a week after coming back home I bought the CS versions. So far, it's been love filled with anger. We have a dynamic relationship. Sometimes my GF makes me want to punch the wall, but I feel good after I see progress.
*Since I'm new, I'll explain I can type a lot when I get bored. I'm at my job right now, actually (and obviously bored).

First time I actually tried it was the machine in Tinseltown (local cinema) around June last year - it was broken, so I sucked even more than would have been the case normally for a first timer. Still it seemed kinda fun and I was sure I couldn't be THAT bad, so I tried again when I saw a 10th Mix at a local bowling place (Revs), around August or September I think. That machine mostly works, I got through the default 10th Mix song and was hooked from then on. I've prolly spent over 1500 bucks since then. Erk.

GF's really bad for pre-existing injuries, though... I think I tore a ligament or something in my left middle finger... it's been giving me annoying pain for the past few months and won't go away. Not to mention that my fret fingertips hurt after each CS session...

Wow, are you serious about the last part? How did you originally tear the ligament?? And those aches after each session sucks.
I can play for 3-5 hours in a row and feel fine. But I mostly wish I could play 3-5 hours without eventually getting bored/stopping. I played 3 hours today. w00t.

That was a bit painful. :P

I too have a blister now in the same area. So now I'm loosening my grip in order not to aggravate the injury.
As for GF. At about July, I played to the extent that I kinda tore a ligament too. (I dunno what's the real injury actualli) Until now, it still gets all stiffy on me. And the ending knuckle cant bend at all. So now, I have to make use of my wrist to change the buttons instead of my fingers. It hurts, especially with unstoppable changings like Funky, Onihime, or even RiffRiff Paradise. But still, I could see FCs in the 70s. ^^

Marketplace Rating: 1 | Checkrox: (eventhough this post is like ages old), that was a good story dude, lol I cant believe you hated GF the first time you played it heh.
Here is my story:
Back in New West, there was a place called Dekka-Pri, I noticed DM and GF 1st mix beside each other. i said to myself "WTF is this, ok I will try the drums out, if they piss me off, then onto the guitar game". I passed a couple songs on basic/advanced for the first time. Then I moved onto Guitar Freaks, now me being a HUGE fan of "Instrumental-related sound effects and cool guitar riffs", I said to myself "holy shit, that LA Rider song sounds cool". So I tried it out for the first time on Basic, I got a C I think.
A few weeks later, I started playing on Advanced, then a day later, one of the staff members said to me that the manager got rid of it all because he was not making enough business. So I went to metrotown to see Playdium for the first time, long and behold...GF 2nd mix. Long story short, I decided to get better and play various songs.
Within the years, CHQ eventually got GF 5th Mix (while I was playing GF/DM 1st to 4th constantly lol), then I decided to play a bit serious myself (not as good as Checkrox though).
At around 2005 (now I remember), I decided to go to E-Spot and show-off a bit, Checkrox ran into me and saw me play, he must of been impressed (while I was pretty tired and nervous after playing Dragon Blade I think on Speed 5.0 at the time).
Then after my absence from E-Spot (due to my stupid drinking and getting my ass back into shape), I guess I have gotten a little better.
Well folks, thats my story so far.

I was impressed all right. | lol my mistake, all I know is that you ran into me at e-spot sometime ago, but you did tell me (sometime last year) that it was 2 years ago (not 3 lol, my mistake AGAIN ) that you remembered me (and that Taka remembered me as well).
Anyway, it was good times lol.
Now onto doing some "experiments" to my gf controller.
See yaz bye.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | Believe it or not.....experiment successful:
After re-exploring my controller, I started to re-arrange the "screw washer setup" that was attacked to the guitar's pic. What I did was I unscrewed all 4 corners of the pic, then I rearranged each washer in order:
Washer, weird-looking-swirly washer and washer again. (In otherwords, flat, swirl and flat).
After I did that (with the exception of missing 2 washers, but oh well), I noticed that the pic was a bit loose and I could tell because of my score getting better.
What I can do is post up a video tutorial on youtube or something.
I hope this helps out everyone.
Good luck.
See yaz bye. | |
