Marketplace Rating: 0 | drummania... DX? Just thought this would be an interesting topic.
How much do you think it would cost for konami to re-release the DM series as they did with beatmania, in a "DX" format?
changes would include on the hardware;
-second bass pedal
-hi-hat pedal (in the electronic sense)
-seperate ride/crash cymbals
-floor tom
making it MUCH closer to a realistic drumset.
Also, the machine would have to be wider to accomodate all of this, which would mean a wider screen as well, which could mean wider videos even after the extra two columns are in.
Yeah, only TWO columns. think about it, it would be the semi-same way DTX press is;
only one extra column for the new floor tom.
and one extra for the crash/ride cymbal.
coloring the hi-hat notes to show what you needed to do with them would do that over, and you would only need one column for bass pedals still, of course.
hihat colors;
blue = normal hit
glowing green = hit hi-hat pedal
glowing red = hit hi-hat pedal + hi-hat at same time (real technique, wouldn't be exactly the same but close enough)
also, the hi-hat column itself could be black if you are just hitting it open, and white if from the next note on you need to hold it down.
there would be ways to fix that complication, make it better i'm sure, but still.
this would all add a huge level of complexity to the game, and would make so many more songs available on the games (songs that couldn't be played before due to double bass, due to large chains of ride cymbal/crash cymbal being used that would have just been a stupid stream before, etc.)

All of the above.
DM isn't ment to duplicate an exact realistic drumkit. That would be retardedly hard for most people who aren't drummers. I don't think cost would be the concern for Konami here, more less the fact that it just doesn't seem realisticaly marketable/profitable.

plus i just figured drummania could teach other people drum skills as it did me.

How do you even pull ITG into this? ITG overall has a dificulty RANGE. Its the same layout as DDR. Theres nothing else "added on" to make it hard. The only way that could even be compared here is if DM was just simply introduced to charts that exceeded level 99, not by the addition of other objects to include in play.

DDR and ITG are, for all intents and purposes, the same damn game: 4 arrows to stomp to the beat. Your proposed DMDX, as I'll abbreviate it to save my hands, is DM plus an additional amount of equipment. It would be more challenging, as ITG was to DDR, this is true. But unlike the ITG/DDR comparison, it's not the same thing. One of these two pairs is harder because the songs are designed to be, the other is harder because the machine itself is more complex.
True, people DID say ITG wouldn't take off because it was harder than DDR. The thing is, though, as you yourself have stated repeatedly, ITG has a range of play, and can be worked up in the ranks. You're proposing a harder OVERALL setup, though, which means you're going to have trouble getting people to join in on DMDX if there's a DM nearby. (Also, what happens to GF/DM linkup in this scenario? I like playing guitar while my buddy actually keeps a damn beat.)

Marketplace Rating: 0 | this DMDX would have a range of play too, obviously. You realize how there's autobass on DM, you could just as easily have "DM mode" or "DMDX" mode, just how beatmania IIDX still has 5 key mode, right?

Although I still think that would be silly (but then again, I think Autobass and 5-Key in IIDX are silly as well. And let's not even touch Autoscratch.)

Marketplace Rating: 0 | There would be a Guitar Freaks DX to match Drummania DX,with more fret buttons to allow more combinations or something like that, which Session mode can be done between the two machines.

if you think 3 buttons arent enough on GF
as of Drummania, i would at the very least have a double bass setup, the intricate hi hat i think would be too much to get used to but the double pedal would be a good option
