While looking at machine parts online, I noticed a bunch of LED's on the drumhead sensor board. Do these light the edges of the drumhead? If so, is it when you strike the sensor, or does it work like DDR wher it has a predefined lighting pattern?

If you aren't already doing this, or no one told, it'd be best if you just start out with maybe a DTX set and modify it from there. All Drummania arcade controllers are basically a modified TX Set provided by Yamaha.

I designed a driver PCB so that the vibration sensors can work on a PSX controller. I'm making another PCB for the light driver circuit, and I might integrate a VU meter or impact meter (or maybe both!). Here's a schematic of the first PCB:
I'm making another one that's much neater than this one, and integrates the light relays THIS DESIGN IS INCORRECT!!!DO NOT USE THIS DESIGN!!!

Good luck!

I've yet to test this circuit, so this is another prototype. Parts list and PCB files coming soon.
In the meanwhile, i'm also designing another circuit for Drummania that uses parts that can all be found at radioshack.

The design with lights only has 5 more transistors, and a USB plug for power, so it shouldn't be hard to use. I built those two boards based on this circuit: Piezoelectric Vibration Sensor Activates Switch - Circuits designed by David A. Johnson, P.E.
I'm still in the midst of designing my own circuit which incorporates easier to find parts, as well as less parts, with the option of adding lights or not.

1) I would HATE to be the tech for that
2) I would HATE to be in the arcade at the same time as *anyone* playing it. real drumkits are loud.
3) how do you keep the kids from ruining it?

I dunno, the maintenance doesn't seem too bad. Accoustic drums don't break that easily.
I think Doogi Doogi triggers are through microphones though.
Yamaha Electronic drums and Drummania are piezoelectric sensors.
