If I were you I'd get a DTXPlorer for safety.

dj-lol: it'd make more sense and it's about the cheapest real kit option, but the general feedback from people who buy the cheap Ion kits is that they'd probably rather have saved up for a DTX. But it'd work, and it's your call.

wibwobweb.com » Using the ION iED05 USB Drum Kit with MIDI capable software
it says computers recognize it as a game controller. Do you guys think this may end up working with drummania as it seems it is recognized as a controller?[/QUOTE]

no because by that logic:
the KBM controller hooked up to a pc recognizes as a game controller
KBM controller does not work when hooked up to drummania

the GF/DM CS games only have a driver to recognize the Yamaha UX16(and up?) adaptors

only a MIDI set would work
Not sure if I'm chiming in too late, but we used this set for Drum Mania, although its not the greatest drum set for it, you can map the the pads, and the bass tends to be - iffy.

Coming in verrrrrry late to this thread but I just thought I'd say I have purchased an IDM05 and it has arrived. It's about the same price as the one for sams club and it comes with MIDI out. You can get it off of Amazon.com. I've bought a simple midi to USB adapter to test if it will indeed work with drummania. I'll let you know once I receive it if it works.

Unless it's a UX-16 I can 99% guarantee you it won't work with that USB adapter.

Like it's been stated many times before, you need a UX-16 adapter

yes I'm seeing that now. I wish I hadn't bought it before reading more into it.
Thankfully if it doesnt work, which it sounds like it wont, I have a friend who has a UX-16 adapter that I can test with my drumpads for compatibility before having to buy my own.

I bought a Ion Premium Rock Band Drumset yesterday, and I am pretty sure it will work with Drummania. You just need to purchase a Drum Module and UX-16. Its supposed to work with Alesis drum modules, and from what I hear those drumsets work with Drummania. Or for the same price you can buy the Yamaha Drum Module, but I cant say for curtain that it will work. I am going to give it a try soon, so I will keep you all updated.

I would check your local music shops for a used Drum module. You can find a used DTXPLORER module cheap on ebay sometimes. musiciansfriend.com and maybe sweetwater.com
