Default GF newb help

After getting into rhythm games with Guitar hero, I decided to import GF and the official guitar controller. Is the guitar strum bar supposed to stick to the left side? I see topics where people talk about downstrumming, and have no clue how to do so with the guitar set up. Also, is there a way to reverse the flow of notes i.e. the notes go from top to bottom? Sorry if these questions have already been answered, I didn't see the answers in a search. Thanks.

Well, I can answer the easy one for you. It is possible to change the flow of the notes from top to bottom but turning reverse on in the option menu while holding start after you've selected your song.

Since your post is rather unclear..

If you're talking about playing GF with your Dual Shock, I believe that you hold the controller upside-down and "strum" with the joystick. You'll need to hold down the buttons as the frets... however, since I've never played GF with the Dual Shock, I'm not sure which buttons :p

One thing's for sure, it differs from GH in that you actually have to hold the button down, whereas GH's controller mode simply requires button presses

The guitar plugs into both ports

And as for the last possible interpretation... the notes are oriented such that the game is expecting you to pound frets with your left hand and strum with your right. If you want to play the other way around (strum with your left instead), there's an option called LEFT in the same menu with REVERSE; simply turn it on to enable it.

You can get to the Play Style menu in a bunch of different places -- either by pressing/holding start after choosing a song; from changing the options in "Play Style Menu" in the options screen, or... the option of the same name in free mode.

Do note that PSM changes in the options screens are global -- the game saves your settings for all songs that you play, regardless of mode. If you hold start, you only change your settings for that particular session.

Sorry for how clear my post was. I meant I bought the konami official guitar and was curious if the strum bar was supposed to stick to the left side or if I had a defective controller, since I can't downstrum the strum bar with the current setup. And thanks to both responses.

downstrum means you push towards the ground (down) on the pick. Up would be like pulling it up. Are you saying you can't move the pic up and down??

Pretty much- I can move the pick up, but not down, as its in the down position already, except during alt-strumming.

ya.... you should be able to move it up and down and it should rest in a middle position. You might have a bad controller, my friend.

Thanks, I was afraid that was the case. Hope the replacement process isn't too rough.

Sounds like the spring mechanism in your pick is either broken, loose, or non-existant? Take a picture so we can see what your talking about, that will help. In any case, if it is the spring, you still should be able to pick down.. just that you will have to grasp the pick in the middle, and then manually move it up and down. If your doing that, and it still doesn't register in the down position, then the picking sensor could be busted as well. That sucks mate

Either way it sounds like your guitar is defective. REFUND!

I wouldn't want to play without a rebounding pick... that just complicates things too much
