Default GF Standards?

I'm just wondering...I really don't play GF much at all (thought that may be changing soon)

I went to Pinball Pete's, an arcade about 3 or so hours north of here weekend before last, mostly to play their Drummania V machine. Anyway, before we left I decided I'd play my favorite GFDM song once on GF, Show Business (ADV Bass chart of course). I think it was a....54? Anyway, it was my first and only lay of the evening. with that song being my 4th in the set, and I managed to S rank it without any trouble whatsoever..

Then again, just last night I was playing session mode with a friend in MP Silver, with him on my new drumcon and myself monkeying with a Guitar Hero controller (I need ot invest in a GF con) Anyway, At one point I played Luvly, Merry Go Round on EX Open Pick and SS ranked it first try with only 12 or 17 greats..

My question is, are these songs just, really easy to time, is GF relatively easy to time in general, or do I actually have some sort of a knack for it? I've been playing 2DX for 4 or 5 years and I'm pretty sure I've AAA'd less than 30 songs total, including light7s. I can pass most [a] 11's but..my timing has always been lacking.

I'm just not used to actually getting good grades without practicing a song to death

The timing is fairly eas I would say. But songs don't really start getting hard until once your past 60+ to show where you really stand.

I thought it wasn't possible to play GF for PS2 with a GH controller because the buttons are all screwed up.

Actually it's possible, but the song list would keep scrolling down...and the Red and Green buttons are together, but skips one button to get to the Blue...and you can only downpick. The other pick's on the whammy.

Anyway...I'd say the judgement timing for GF is more loose compared to DM and IIDX. The tightest I'd say would be IIDX, followed by DM...

Actually you can reconfigure the controls in Masterpiece Silver, so you can have full functionality except for Wailing Bonuses, but you still need to switch controllers on the menu :/

It's a pain, I'm going to buy a GF controller before too long....wish teh ASC's werent quite so expensive, they're nice :<

Yep.. exactly.. the controller works OK with MPS.. Well, for those songs you mentioned, there really isn't any fast double picking parts or fast changing parts that I can remember, so your most likely downpicking the whole thing? Timing downpicking on Guitar Freaks is one of the easy timing windows to get down out of any Bemani, hell, if I can do it, anyone can. It's when you start double picking that you get what seems like random greats sometimes. Good luck!

I want to give the guy credit. How much have you played GF? If you've played it before, I would think you'd have a pretty good idea of how good you are.

Anyways, if someone that played the game 3 times in his life FC Luvely on his first try, got an S on Show Business, that is pretty good. Pretty good in a sense that

1) You're obviously past the learning curve

2) You were able to go the entire song without making one mistake

I'd say you SEEM to have a knack for it, but haven't you played before? How did you start?

I first played GF probably about 3 years ago, it was a GF2 machine that I tracked down in some little arcade. I think that throughout my life I probably haven't played more than 10 times in an arcade, probably closer to like, 7, and I've only bothered to mess with the GH controller on MPS 3 times or so. I used to mess around on a dualshock with the PSX mixes, but I wouldn't count that as actually playing.

I'd be lying if I said that it was my very first time playing, but the only bemani I've played less than GF is probably Keyboardmania (which I've played maybe 3 times)

As for HOW I'm playing, I've been pretty much alternate picking, sometimes downpicking when there's some weird staggered beat or something. I use HS5 and reverse scroll.

but you have you played 30s and 40s and 50s? I was just wondering if there was some gradual rise or one day you picked it up, S'd a 54, FC a 42, I believe.

I say that's pretty good, though. Try other songs. Maybe those 2 songs just really clicked with you.

Some games just click with people faster.. and theres not really any fast picking sections in those songs.. so I think it's definetly believeable. I don't know why, but for most people I've read about, they suck at IIDX their first time and can barely pass the easiest song. On my first game of IIDX, I passed two 5's and a 6 (On Happy Sky), so I guess I picked it up faster than others. That was with never having played regular beatmania either. Some people just picks up games faster I guess.

The judgement for GF is easier than Beatmania. I think Beatmania has the toughest judgement.

The reason GF seems easier to get Perfects is the fact that your finger is always on the pick so pretty much its like pushing a button up and down. The reason drummania and beatmania seems harder is that sometimes your hand moves a considerable distance from the buttons in beatmania or your drumstick from the pads in DM. With that extra distance it leaves error in inconsistencies due to hitting strength.

Heh, I passed Absolute 7key (a level 7) the second time I ever played, in an arcade. After getting my ps2 and stuff, I passed my first flashing 7 (Summer Vacation) in under a month.

Been playing more, seem to be able to clear in the 75-80 range..I think I need to buy a GF controller :<
