I wouldn't be surprised, it wouldn't be favorable for arcades to dump their GFdm machines for XG which would most likely cost a ton. I think I'd be much more shocked disappointed in Konami if they really did drop the regular 5-pad/3-button series completely and replace it with XG without seeing if it would even succeed (similar to DDR Solo).

yeah, i'm pretty sure it would've been tough for us to get XG over here to vancouver. not sure we have enough players still to justify any arcade making the investment :/ so yay upgrades! | |

Yeah, this seems like what they did with bm to me. However, this is different: this is something like the 16th or 17th version of GF (and 15th or 16th of DM) whereas IIDX 1st Style came out around the time when bm 4th Mix came out. There wouldn't have been much of a bm machine base at the time, so Konami could just sell both. (and, presumably, kill off the one that did worse) In this case, however, there are thousands of GF/DM machines out there, and the operators might be a little reluctant to spend $10,000 at all, much less on a brand new game that alienates some of its predecessor's players. So, what do you do? You simply let both run for a while until people are comfortable with XG and with buying an XG machine. This release probably is the beginning of the end for classic GF/DM, a chain of a few more installments while XG stabilizes. | |
