and then I play it for completionist value, and say "wow, that was a fun chart."
The stupid cat meowing song on V CS comes to mind. I am not that good, but I enjoy that song... and not ashamed to admit it. Just annoyed.

Yeah some lyrics are kinda cheesy but I think most songs still sound decently nice.

You can't really top that one mentioned in the OP though. Me and a few friends affectionately call it "that furry song".

also Rockin' Paradise
in all I'd say the diversity in song selection in most bemani games is what I enjoy the most

I wonder who takes this seriously | I have actually gotten this quite a bit. Since being in college, everyone hears everything, they tend to hear me play IIDX/Pop'n/DM (I have no GM controller, so I don't play), and when they get curious, a good amount of people seem to get angry about it.
One thing I will agree with is: I like rock. And although most rock music (pop culture wise) tends to follow "bass hi hat bass hihat/snare.... crash!" (with the occasional fill) I would like some more "heavy" stuff.
To be fair, the only versions I have played are V CS, 5th arcade, and 9th arcade?

If they won't believe that the arcade versions came first, just direct them to the CS versions -- GF1 came out on PS1, for crying out loud...

You had preconceived, carved-in-stone notions about what constituted lousy music...
You ran into a plethora of Drummania songs that met this criteria (which doesn't surprise me at all...I'd be hard pressed to name anyone besides me who plays more than 10 songs even somewhat regularly)...
You played them anyway because you just had to know (which, incidentally, is pretty much my rationale for playing Pump It Up at all post-Prex 2)...
By giving the game a shot instead of just writing it off, you found something you liked and learned the folly of clinging to preconceived notions...
And you HATE the game because of this??
Okay...my first suggestion is to appreciate good things that come your way, even if you never anticipated them. Life is to short too nitpick over good fortune, especially considering all the bad things that will come your way without you ever anticipating them. Lighten up! Have fun!
My second suggestion is to start playing IIDX, where you will run into the most bizarre music known to man with absolutely awesome notecharts, and thus never have any issues with Drummania again.
(P.S.: What do you think of Guitar Freaks?)

While maybe there are some misses and a lot of songs just aren't plain fun to play, there are many incredible songs on there (Tamayura (sp?) and basically anything by Thomas Howard come to mind)
My personal favorite song goes by something like "Smile of You" or "Smile For You". I can't find any youtube videos of it but I love it to death.
