Default I have an oppotunity..

An arcade close by (<2 hours drive), closed down due to bankruptcy, and all the machines are going up for auction. A Drummania 5th and Guitar Freaks 6th will be on the auction list. I'm very very excited and heavily considering purchasing one of both of the machines (more so the guitar freaks) and I ask you, the forum to help me.

How much should I pay (maximum bid) for the Guitar Freaks? It's in good condition, I've played on it before, no problems with the guitars/sound/screen anything like that.

How much would it cost to upgrade it to anything newer? I know you need a special hardware upgrade for V onwards. How much would a 10th mix run?

Thanks!!

You may want to post this on PNWBemani.net also cuz then Bill Masterman might be able to give you some better input, seeing as how he specializes in this stuff and all...

Ive seen a DM 5th mix on ebay go for 1875 dollars once. So probably double that amount for DM and GF seems feasible.

Upgrade kits for V and later on i think are all at least 12,000 dollars for both DM and GF. It could be hard getting a kit past V in the US... If its a V2 or V kit its most likely going to be used but that means it will be cheaper but more prone to problems.

I don't know if a DM 5th GF 6th can be upgraded to a later version like V or V2 or V3. My guess is that it should be possible.

Whoa upgrade kits for V SHOULDN'T be that much. You can buy a whole V machine for that much.

ANY DM machine can be upgraded to V1-4, provided you can get your hands on the full upgrade board. GF may require the speakers, I don't know the technicality on that though. But if you have at least 4th with speakers, then yes you can upgrade.

Umm. It's an auction from a local arcade. I hope tho christ for his sake it doesn't have the publcity as ebay (and that would equate lower prices which Is why I think he's doing it). I could be wrong, though. $4,000 to be safe is insane - I could never be that hardcore about GF or DM.

I always thought unless you had a fairly newer version, there was a limit to how far you could upgrade the machine. So that would mean he could get 400-ish songs in there if he wanted?? Sweet.

Do you really want to buy a GF machine when there's an ASC available for much less? O_o I'd have thought DM would be a much better purchase since you need like an $800 DTX to even get close to the arcade experience (and even that's not exact). I suppose it would be good if you really wanted to play old songs that aren't on the home versions, tho.

Maybe it's to upgrade to the 400+ V3 songs? That would be worth a lot to me.

Checked it out a bit, and referencing to channelbeat, I'd say your reservation price for the DM or GF machine each might be about USD$3000.

And an upgrade to 10th might be about USD$1300, taken from the same reference.

I could be wrong though.

*edit* The additional set of speakers for V and above are required on Guitarfreaks machines 11th mix or older. The lack of them would still enable the game to run, just that you won't be able to hear certain sounds/background music during play.

Uh, you can't upgrade to V3 from such old machines; you'd pretty much just have to buy a brand-new machine since I'm pretty sure that the hardware upgrade kits are more or less impossible to find anymore.

Hmm someone from italy was offering to sell a new DM and GF V3 upgrade kit to AI for like 10G. I wasn't sure on that though, it was just something someone told me.
