Default The "I need help" thread

I dunno if there is such a thread. But I'll just post it here.

For whoever who needs help in a certain song, be it asking how to play a certain song, specific training songs, what kind of timing is the roll/doublepick etc, just ask it here.

If possible, try to tell us what bar is it on. Or at least, where is it? Beginning, middle, end?

And please, tell us the title of the song. We dun wanna go "huh?" thinking of the title instead of the solution.

--------------------

Ok, my first question:

What is the speed of TL100s rubbish toms section? I never seem to get it right.

Regarding fast picking:

The only reason I do horrible or get low grades grades is because when having to fast pick (e.g.: Rise, Model DD7, You can't do it, anything that has a good stream of it)

I can never seem to get it right, half of the time I get a B or below on Rise due to the fact that I can not seem to get right on beat for those fast parts.

Any practice methods or something I can do to help me get better?

And for Riff Riff Paradise on Extreme

At the fire part, I somehow get thrown off right when it starts. Ya know where it goes:

R
G
R
G

then switches over to

G
B
G
B

After the first Red note is G then R, do the notes inbetween are actually faster?

There's never been any "unlock" like that in any arcade bemani game ever (not going to push it to include CS, although I'd imagine not.)

So, in a single word, "no".

Answer regarding fast picking.

1) COUNT. Most of the time for this situation if you use sight-reading, you will often get lost in terms of timing, cuz you're too busy looking at the button changes instead of the timing.

2) Practice. Nothing beats practice. Practice more and you'll get the notes in ur head.

3) If you downpick through, say, the starting of Rise, where it's 8beat 200bpm, then later u'll realise that double-picking at 16beat 200bpm is a breeze, cuz it's the same speed as how ur hand was moving just now. Jus that there's an extra up-pick. Practice this too.
------------
Regarding Riff Riff Paradise,

I'm not too sure, never played yet. But looks the same though. However, remember that the 2nd half is faster.

ok I have a good question, how do you strum the guitar/hold the guitar to get all the noted that are extremely close together at a fast speed? like on white tornato?

Good question, but not a lot of good answers.

Tornado's hyperpick, if i'm not wrong, is close to 200bpm 16beat. (like funky)

If my memory never fails me, there's 2 ways to double-picking.

1) The thumb and index finger is holding onto the pick and shake it like a wanker. XD This way, u're using ur arm power or wrist power (depending on how u pick) to keep time.

2) The other way is the thumb and index finger is spaced out. And you flick the pick (something like strumming a real guitar). This way, you're using either ur wrist power or finger power to keep time. This is commonly used by Tatsujins cuz it's less tiring (or so I've heard). However, this way is harder to master.

------
And other things to note:

1) If you think that the notes are too congested, try playing with a higher speed.

2) Look at my previous post, regarding counting. ^_^

I may have some of the physics wrong, but I hope I answered ur question.

A friend of mine playing with the thumb and index finger spaced out.

is it recommended to do down or up-down picking on songs like taisetsu or saccharine smile?

and what are some songs and tips to practice...
-switching patterns like RGB, RG, RGB, RG etc.
-switching from down to up-down picking?

For switching patters when they just keep doing the same thing over and over, I usually just don't really pay too much attention to the notechart. Release the B, and put it back, it might be tricky at first but you soon get the hang of it and can do it fine. Practice with songs like escape to the sky, glide, etc.

To switch to up-down, well, I think you just have to get used to it by playing easier songs. I forced myself to learn on up-down when I started, but from what I've seen of other players, they just have to learn to get used to it. Play songs without fast picking and just keep alternating, and work your way up, making sure not to fall back into the trap of just going down (although doing it once in awhile is fine of course).

I seem to have a problem with this sort of pattern-

R, R, G, G, B, B, R, R, G, G, B, B, and so on, (found in Onihime (Bsc))

I find this strange because i don't really any problem at all if the pattern goes like this -

R, G, B, R, G, B, and so on (found in Onihime (Adv))

Is there any particular technique that can be used to get through this pattern?

I would never reccomend this method, you can never get a feel for the beat. Spacing your fingers apart and then double picking allows you to hear the pick tapping on each note, and then you can easily correspond it with the music.

It's all up to you. Double picking definetly causes less stamina drain, but for me personally, decreases accuracy. I can full down-pick taisetsu and get excellent, and I will only be slightly tired. I would personally recommend it because later on for really fast double picking you need to be able to downpick that fast anyways. Also, for switching patterns, full downpick songs are good to practice. Gekkou Chou and Desert Rain are good. Honjitsu is ok if you are just starting out I guess.

Yes, I had the exact same problem.. and I figured it out too!! I was just not holding on to the corresponding color button long enough. I was too anxious to get to the next color and jammed down on it too fast, also make sure you are completely lifting off the other finger. So next time just try holding it down a little longer, even if it feels too long. Good luck.

To each his own I guess. I managed to keep time better with this method compared to yours (as mentioned in method 2). Cuz my index always flick up at the wrong timing and greats/goods appear...

It's up to the player to decide. ^_^

I switched from downpicking through alternate picking by strumming with my thumb and... ring finger. This worked well for me simply because the action was so strange -- how often do you play video games with your ring finger? Because this is so strange, you kinda force yourself to play on time, which is exactly how you are supposed to alternate-pick: have up pick act as just another down pick, while saving your endurance. Although the real reason for me was the fact that if I didn't learn alt-pick, I wouldn't be able to get any better... because my hand endurance is total shit

Eventually I switched to a thumb-index setup where I use pure finger strength to pick 95% of the songs. Sooo a song like Panasonic Youth would do nothing to my hand

For keeping rhythm, I find that it's helpful to count in sets of 4 (like, 95% of the songs in GF go by some incarnation of 2 or 4/X time signature), with an extra-pronounced strum on the first of each set. I wouldn't be able to get to Purple Storm without that >_>

Re switching: I actually beg to differ from original-z, as I believe that playing on RANDOM and SUPER-RANDOM is much better practice (in that order!) There really isn't a point to playing GF if you're just memorizing the notes; if there's anything you should memorize, it's the rhythm of the notes. Besides, imagine how boring 大切なもの is -- spice things up a little!

IMO Gekkouchou is a bit too fast for beginners... Desert Rain is good, though, and so is Akikaze.

One last note on switching -- if all else fails, rely on your instincts. The more you think, the faster you fail... especially on a hyperpick song like Over There.
