Default Keyboardmania for ps2 with a midi keyboard?

I'm thinking of getting these two and hooking it up to my ps2 to play keyboard mania. Does anyone think/know if it will work? Since I've heard Midi to USB cables would work but I wasn't sure if it was Yamaha's midi-usb cables only or what.

Only KBM II supports MIDI keyboards. I remember having issues with any keyboard that had more keys than the konami controller (I had no luck with a Oxygen keybaord using MIDI out because it had 1 more key)

Weird, that doesn't sound like it would be a problem because the game should only care about what signals are in the range that it can understand, and ignore all other inputs.

So did you ever get the game working with a MIDI keyboard, and if so what USB midi adapter did you use? Or was it a USB keyboard?

Update for anyone who cares:
The HDE cable did not work with keyboardmania for ps2, so I ordered a Yamaha UX16 which I've heard DOES work. It was freaking expensive though, $50 after shipping.

So apparently over the years Yamaha has released a "new" UX16 which is incompatible with keyboardmania as well as some older gf/dms. I'm officially giving up, this is turning out to be much more trouble than it's worth. And I had to eat shipping costs to return the cable to where I bought it online. Poop.
