Default Lcd / plasma tv recommendations?

Hi,

My old tv just died and I want to buy a new LCD/Plasma screen to play Guitarfreaks, PNM and hook my PS3 to it without Lagg.

These are the things I think it's important for me:

- HDMI for my ps3
- Play rhythem games without lagg
- Full HD or 1366 x 768 (old samsung LCD got 1360 x 768 instead of 1366 x 768, very annoying watching movies with subs)
- 32 inch or larger screen
- Good quality screen for watching movies

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Ah-Foen

None -- stick w/ CRT. You literally cannot avoid shitty lag on an HDTV, unless it's a HD CRT, and then it's still present but negligible.

If all else fails, keep a CRT around just for music/fighting games. My CRT HD barely lags, but I just wheel my old 24" CRT out that I keep in the closet for that stuff.

Playstation 3's HDMI makes 480i-native games lag WORSE than component/composite/S-vid cables, sadly.

Sharp Aquos makes a few LCD's specifically for gamers which are supposed to be no lag sets. They are 1080P not 720P like you requested. These sets are actually marketed as "Gamer Series" with a feature called "Vyper Drive." The model numbers are as follows. 32 inch models. LC-32GP1U LC-32GP2U LC-32GP3U and 37 inch model LC-37GP1U. I owned an LC-32GP1U (until the day my house was burgularized) and used it with my PS3 and I never noticed any lag, but I never played DDR games with it either.

Recommended (I have the older gaming 32" 1080p). It is fast at all resolutions including 480i.

CRT is still the best for 480i - simply because they are made for it. The phosphors fade so you don't see the interlaced scanning (ie, like the complaints about the more responsive PSP-3000)

With most games going to progressive mode, you might as well buy an HD plasma or LCD. Most of the best, recent models from the major brands are fine with adjustments in progressive mode.

Unfortunately, I know the majority of today's HD games run best at 720p, but the best (and fastest) displays tend to be 1080p.

Above all, play it before you buy it. If you have room and extra money for a high quality CRT, add that. Especially if you do any classic gaming. Don't be afraid to go back to CRT. I have more than once--especially with computer gaming for increased refresh rates.
