Default Modding/replacing the KOC bass pedal

Any ideas to help with this? It's not so much that it doesn't register as much as it is, because it's flat, it's much more tiring to use and sort of cramps my foot up. I asked at a local music store about a MIDI pedal (since I know you can use one with an adaptor), and they said they didn't have any, and they run about $90. That seems, uhh, really fucking high, but I don't know anything about the subject, so...

Post and discuss ideas for bass pedal mods, and the best (or cheapest) replacements.

i use a keyboard sustain pedal you can get em for like 20$ at radio shack (YAMAHA) or a local music store real cheap you do have you solder the switch to on when down i think out of the box its on when pedal is not pressed
and a MONO PHONO1/4" > RCA adaptor

If you don't want to solder, buy a pedal that already has a polarity switch. My pedal has a polarity switch on the bottom that says "down/on" and "down/off". It works without soldering on my Topway drumset.

My pedal...

You will also need an adaptor plug so the pedal can fit into the drumset.

Topway drumset requires...
1/4" (6.3mm) to 1/8" (3.5mm) adaptor. Something like this...

Konami drumset requires...
1/4" (6.3mm) to RCA plug (according to Opethian). So something like this...

I hope that helps...

yep thats exactly it you can find a gold one at radioshack thats wheer i got my adaptor my yamaha pedal did not have a polarity switch but i will get a camera to take a picture of what i did

the way the switch on my pedal was open when pressed you can see open contact in the switch you may not have to do this with a newer pedal but mine was an old one my friend gave to me ill will try to get pictures up this weekend if i can get a camera, my phone camera will not take a picture worth posting

can i use this?

I'm worried the jack would be stereo instead of mono and cause problems.

I have a stereo adapter and a mono adapter. Both work fine on my Topway drumset. I don't think you'll have a problem with that.

I don't know anything about electronic drum pedals. They might require some modifications to work properly with Drummania. Maybe someone who knows more about them can help.

opethian:

I just got a Yamaha FC5 and I thought all I had to do was switch the wires but i was WRONG.

So I think you have to solder the middle contact to the top contact right???

I am anxious to play LOL.

well, I guessed right and modded it successfully.

however, right now the bass pedal only registers when pressed fully, I am going to tweak it so that it will trigger halfway.

The spring is a little on the weak side so it's not that springy, but once I make it so that the bass pedal will trigger half pressed, it's going to be awesome.

a total worthwhile upgrade, i paid 30 canadian for the pedal and 6 bucks for the mono adaptor at the source.

So I've tweaked the pedal a bit and now it registers sooner, but sometimes it will double hit if i don't press the pedal fully.... it's sensitive but almost too sensitive.

also, this thing sucks for rapid bass. Keyboard sustain pedals are not meant to be pressed this fast, and I'm trying to think ways to make it a "faster" pedal.

At least I now have a pedal that registers every time with confidence, it's just not fast enough though.

I was thinking of going for an electronic hihat pedal... Would that work with KOCs????
