Default MODEL DD6 Origins

I was reading the song info for various GF/DM songs on Konami's page today, when I noticed the blurb Mutsuhiko Izumi wrote for MODEL DD6 on the 11/10 site. Roughly paraphrased (don't get on my ass about the exact translation, but this is the jist of it):

"As a matter of fact, I wrote this song for a different game 10 years ago. But due to sound hardware limitations at the time, obviously you couldn't include live recorded music, so this time I arranged the song for GFdm and revived it as MODEL DD6."

Anybody know which game he's referring to? I know that he did the music for the first two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games, but those come many years before 1994 (the year that he would be indicating by '10 years ago'). Something for the Super NES, maybe?

I believe that he also composed for the game Lethal Enforcers which was made in 1993 for the Sega Genesis.

I FOUND IT!

I can't believe I actually found the origin.

First I went to that Slayer page with all of info about Bemani artists and songs and saw this:
MODEL DD6

It says that the original song is 火の鳥 which means "phoenix" and it was from コナミ矩形波倶楽部 which was a collaboration of Konami musicians in the early 90s.

Searching for those two led me to this:

ƒRƒiƒ~EƒAƒ~ƒ…[ƒYƒƒ“ƒgƒTƒEƒ“ƒY'93cH

Quote:
コナミ・アミューズメントサウンズ'93…秋
...
DISC 2
メタモルフィックフォース
...
08. 火の鳥 (2ステージボス、6ステージ中ボス)
The same song!

Searching for メタモルフィックフォース led to an arcade game called Metamorphic Force. It's like TMNT, except everyone is a half-human, half-animal of some sort and the music is definitely the style of Izumi.

And then right there, in the end of the 2nd stage, there was the boss, a human/phoenix hybrid with MODEL DD6 in the background.

On top of all that, MODEL DD7 is also in this game! It plays when you face off against a female lizard/devil thing wearing almost nothing in the 4th stage. It's track 18 on that same disc called コロシアムの女悪魔 or "The female devil of the Collesium"

Also, that slayer page says that MODEL DD4 originated from "HIGHWAY" of the same group.
MODEL DD4

In the description for Model DD4 in the GF9/DM8 page, Izumi says it's from Speed King. Case closed on that mystery.

I wonder if all of the DD songs are just game music he made a long time ago.

edit: these are the games Izumi made music for, according to this page:
KONAMI KUKEIHA-CLUB

SNATCHER(MSX)
SD SNATCHER(MSX)
METAR GEAR2 SOLID SNAKE(MSX)
クライムファイターズ (Crime Fighters) (AC)
T.M.N.T.(AC)
スラムダンク (Slam Dunk) (AC)
SPEED KING(AC)
JET WAVE(AC)
Winding HEAT(AC)
FIGHTING 武術(AC)
GUITAR FREAKS(AC)
GUITAR FREAKS 2nd MIX(AC)
drummania(AC)
ヘンリーエクスプローラーズ (Henry Explorers) (Crypt Killer) (AC)
アステリクス (Asterix) (AC)
リーサルエンフォーサース (Lethal Enforers) (AC)

Awesome. You rock for finding that

EDIT: Wow, that page is amazing.

Miki Higashino (Suikoden I, Suikoden II) did the music for Gradius 1? J.Kane (Waldeus von Dovjak) did music for Gradius III and a game called "Nyan nyan panic (which by the way is probably being referenced to by the artist for Die Zauberflote)"? Jimmy Weckl did the music for Silent Scope?

I've learned a lot XD

I think either Asami or Weckl also did Police 911 and and I believe Lethal Enforcers 3 as well.

That's a pretty sweet find. I checked this game out, and sure enough, there they are - DD6 and DD7. The rest of the music is suitably rockin', too. Game kinda plays like a cross between the TMNT Arcade Game and Altered Beast. Not half bad.

His Wikipedia entry mentions that Double Orbit is an arrangement of an old song as well, "Water Water", and that Mr. Machine and The Adventures are also arrangements. Any idea which games those were in?

Requesting mp3s is usually forbidden, but an we make an exception in this case for curiosity purposes? Some other kind of format or youtube video would work as well. I'd like to hear without having to track down the games..

Is there a college degree for Guitar Freaks & DrumMania Histotrian?

I wonder if that's a double major.

Okay, here they are!

Model DD6 origin - YouTube - Model DD6 origin
Model DD7 origin - YouTube - Model DD7 origin

Also, most of you know that Day Dream is a remix of the boss theme from the game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. Here's a clip of that as well:

Finally, depending on your music tastes, this is either the best song or the worst song that Izumi made:

I knew that it was very similar (in fact the guitar uses almost the exact same instrument sound), but I still don't know if I really want to call it a remix. The main riff is the same, but so much of Day Dream is different. Hmm.

At the very least, that part is ripped straight from it
