new/old GF controller

I've heard that the new GF controllers are better than the old ones. Checking on auction sites, most of the worthwhile auctions are for the old ones. How much worse are the old ones than the new ones and what are the problems with them?

I don't know much about the old ones, but I have one of these and it works great after you break it in. Unless those ebay auctions are 30 dollars or less just get one of these.

What isn't wrong with the ten dollar (i.e. 3rd party) ones is more like it. Let's see what I can think of off the top of my head, in general:

- Most only register picking in one direction (usually downpicking)
- Some/most won't register tilt (for wailing)
- Fret buttons are less responsive, making it harder to do fast fretwork/button changes
- Pick rocker is less responsive, making it hard to hit rapid notes (which compounds the above problem)
- Some are even more awkward to hold than the official one, which already hurts my hand to play
- Most include more than 3 fret buttons, which just get in the way (and they don't work with Guitar Hero either, so having 5 or 6 fret buttons really won't do anything for you)
- Cheap price means cheap construction, so don't expect it to hold up

Really, since the official ones are available again there isn't any reason to buy a 3rd party controller.

Yeah fifty bucks doesn't feel like much compared to that Pop'n DASC I got. Thanks for the heads up.
