A new set of options? I know this probably belongs in the GFdm sim section, but it's important enough for the entire community to know.
There are two options I've been thinking of:
1) If you either don't have a PS2, or are not willing to risk modding your PS2, you can technically run any GFdm game on an emulator with one of those cheap USB drum sets. However, because of the limitations that PS2 emus have now-a-days, this isn't very viable. It takes a huge amount of memory or processor to run it at 60 FPS, also, sound emulation still isn't that great. Maybe in a few months, or even a year or two, this would be a better option, but for now, not a chance.
2) You could resort to DTX Sims. With the simulation file ripping almost perfected, it's pretty viable. There are cheap drum sets if you know where to look, and I just remembered!
If you don't mind the odd size of the GHII controller (and the fact that it's Guitar Hero), this is what you can do:
a) Pick up a GHII Xbox 360 X-Plorer guitar from RedOctane, or just buy the GHII pack for shits and giggles.
b) Google around for the driver. Microsoft (Or something, I'm pretty sure it was Microsoft) released a driver that will allow you to use all of the features of the controller.
c) Run DTXMania. Map the buttons to your liking. Voila! Guitar controller!
I'm not 100% it works, however, it should. DON'T BUY ANY OTHER VERSION OF THE CONTROLLER! Only the 360 version connects through USB, but once they make a PS3 version, that should work as well. Well, unless they use BlueTooth for it...
Anyway, can any one test this so that it works for SURE?
