Default Playing Beatmania or DDR....with a Drum set/Drum Mania Controller

Would that work?

Drum Mania uses 6 buttons including bass,

But Beat Mania has a 5 key set-up (which is enough to include bass and just exclude 1 pad), and DDR has 4 buttons (which can still be fun if you take out the bass pedal).

But can you configure these games to any controller? Has anyone tried this? Maybe I'll try it with a Guitar Hero controller if I can find an old DDR game around the house.

All I can remember is that you can plug a Drummania KOC bass pedal int othe footpedal port in a IIDX KOC and use it as a scratch with your foot.

Haha. Nice. Well, it's a start. What about the rest of the controller, eh? If it worked, that would be awesome.

The only DDR game that I can think of that allows you to configure input to any button is Party Collection. I haven't tried using the drum controller with it yet.

A Guitar Hero controller will work with DDR just as long as you swap it with a regular controller when you're in the menus. I forget which four, but four of the frets held in a left hand position line up exactly with the DDR inputs of left, down, up, and right.

It's possible to use a drum controller for beatmania. Obviously, you can only play in 5-key mode due to the number of pads on the controller. It takes awhile to configure the inputs to the correct pads. Even with the right setup, songs with 3 or more button notes are impossible unless you're using your hands to smack the pads.

Why would you say this? Is it way too fast to be able to pull of with drumsticks? It sounds like you've tried it. Playing DDR with a Guitar Hero controller sounds tempting....

Yes, I've tried all of this.
The timing windows on beatmania are too tight to try to roll 3-button notes with equal judgments.

edit: I just tried Party Collection with the DM controller. It's playable just as long as you swap controllers for the menus and roll through the freeze arrows.

Here are the equivalent inputs for the DM controller:
Hi-hat : /\
Snare : O
Bass : L2
High Tom : R2
Low Tom : R1
Cymbal : X

But it sounds like beatmania is out of the question.

I'm going to try DDR with a Guitar Hero controller this week then. Have you tried that? Does it play fine? Is it fun?

Those inputs might actually help me configure Drum Mania with a Guitar Hero Controller + auto bass.

EDIT: Thanks for the explanation checkrox.

He means.. If you have to hit 3 notes at once for Beatmania.. (i.e: a chord) how can you possibly hit 3 pads at the same time using only 2 drumsticks? To do a roll would mean you would have to hit 2 pads at the same time and then quickly move one stick to hit a third as fast as you could. With the timing windows on beatmania though, this would surely result in Goods.
