it's already been discussed to death.
the guitar hero guys were inspired by guitar freaks. there's no issue about that, they say so themselves in interviews. they saw the idea and thought they could improve on it (or rather, make a version that would appeal to the American mass market more). and they did. there's nothing wrong or even unusual about that. people have been building on each other's ideas since gaming started.
calling it a 'rip-off' is not really accurate; a rip-off just takes the existing idea, copies it, and does nothing new. guitar hero expands on guitar freaks quite a lot (with the extra buttons and hammer-on / pull-offs), has excellent presentation, more multiplayer modes, different song styles etc. so it's not a rip-off. |
