Default Quick (and perhaps, dumb) question...

For the GFDM games, without sessions or anything, can one play...let's say, a Drummania song with the guitar without the DM interface format?

I'm really asking if these GFDM games allow you to play ALL songs with one instrument (controller).......or are these games actually 2 seperate arcade ports all jam-packed into one PS2 disc, thus requiring you to have a DM controller for the DM side and/or a GF controller for the GF side?

Like if you wanna play DOUBLE ORBIT (DM2ndMIX[GF3rdMIX&DM2ndMIX]), would you NEED to have a DM controller in order to even play the song properly?...or maybe the notechart would be converted for the guitar (if game even detects it)??

SO, if I only had a GF controller, I should BASICALLY just leave the DM mode/side alone...and I'd be missing out on the entire DM side, right?

It's kinda hard to explain. Sorries. =/

All songs can be played with the guitar or drum controller. There are no songs that are guitar-only or drum-only (at least, not in V/V2/MPS/MPG. I don't own the older versions and never saw an AC older than 7/6th so I can't vouch for those. I'd check GameFAQs, as I'm sure there is an FAQ/songlist/guide up for each of those older home versions).

This isn't Stepmania.

No notecharts are converted and each instrument has notecharts that reflect the instrument being played - for most songs, the EXT notechart is the same as if you had played that song with a real drumset or guitar (given you had a magical guitar with only 3 frets)

In 3rd/2nd, I believe Centaur is a drum-only song. For the most part though, each song has its own predetermined chart(s) for both instruments. Just think of it as two distinct games with close to 100% song overlap, and therefore come bundled together in a single package.

I think the only drum only songs are Depend on Me by Thomas Howard and Centaur by Jimmy Weckl.. there may have been others in older mixes but I never played them. To my knowledge there are no guitar only songs though.

I'm gonna hijack these thread to avoid making a new one for a stupid question...

I just bought masterpiece silver, and I wanted to know, if I bought a guitar hero controller (specifically a guitar hero 1 controller), will there be any consequences? I heard of it always going to the left, but what about button layout? Can I still do that weird thing where you jerk the guitar?

No, "that weird thing where you jerk the guitar" (wailing) will not be useable. With Masterpiece silver, however, you can configure the controller to use the three middle buttons on the guitar hero controller, making it basically OK to use. However, if you try using it on V, theres no re-mapping controls option, so your stuck using the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th, buttons, which is quite a stretch for your pinky.

Other than swapping it with a regular controller every time you're selecting songs, it'll work fine.

Here's what you do to make a GH controller work with GF.
In the button config for GF, map these inputs to these buttons with a regular controller:
Red - O
Green - /\ (you will use the yellow fret on the GH controller for Green)
Blue - X
Pick - Up and Down
Wailing - L2

The whammy bar is useless in GF, so don't worry about it.

Yes, you can "jerk the guitar". If you have the old first edition GH1 controller, you have to really jerk it upward to trigger the wailing bonus. With the second edtion of the black GH1 and red GH2 controllers, you only need to tilt it lightly to get it to trigger the wailing bonus.

Sorry but whats the whammy bar? And thanks a lot for the info. So basically, I should look for a black GH1 controller?

That metal bar sticking out below the pick, used to distort the sound in Guitar Hero.

No, get the current red ones or 2nd issued black ones. The tilt sensor in those are much easier to get to trigger than the old 1st issued black ones.

In the PS2 version of Drummania, Eraser Engine and Love This Feelin' had drum charts. Pretty sure they weren't in the AC versions, especially since Love This Feelin' was a CS-exclusive track either way.
Thanks for the correction.

Dont forget the guitar hero controller tends to cause the song list to constantly scroll. You need to select the song you want with a PS2 controller, then unplug the controller and plug in the GH Guitar just before the song starts for it to work well.

On the side note, lucky staff was not created on drum until V even though its been in GF since 1st i think.
