they why not just add 2 switches on the side of the guitar, and have one for the left and one for the right, and have them connect to ground when activated. that way you can just switch into compatibility for each game.

There's no contact point for right on the Guitar Hero board. And if you can somehow, without the use of a PIC, figure out how to make a switch send a timed pulse signal to the right button, then all power to you.
