-.- why are you asking then?
It is so simple to make .sm. For beginners way to do it is.
Note: This the syntax/codes of the .sm
#command:filename.extention;
1. copy a .sm from another simfile
2. paste it on your new simfile folder
eg.
C:\Program Files\StepMania\Songs\My Simfiles\Your new simfile
3. Put your music (.mp3 or .ogg or .wav) in your new simfile folder.
4. Copy the filename of your .mp3 or .ogg or .wav
eg.
Haruhi ep12 - god knows.mp3
5. Open .sm as Notepad. just change this line. To your music filename.
eg.
#MUSIC:Haruhi ep12 - god knows.mp3;
5a.optional. You can change the artist and song title from there to.
#TITLE:Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu EP12 Insert Song; <-- song title
#SUBTITLE:God Knows...; <--- Subtitle. The words between song title and Artist Name
#ARTIST:Hirano Aya; <-- Artist Name
5b.optional. You can change your bg, banner and cdtitle
#BANNER:Haruhi God Knows Banner.png;
#BACKGROUND:Suzumiya Haruhi Inserts BG1.jpg;
#CDTITLE:Jubo.png;
Straight forward... Just read what it say in #Command and just change the filename.extention in between these area --> : Between HERE ;
6. Now as Akira said:

You're talking about XStep. Unfortunately, you cannot see what you're recording.
You can do it in Stepmania
Press Ctrl+R to start recording. Hit F1 for help. It doesn't hurt to explore.
