Default F---ing Windows Updates...

Is there a way to make the "Installation is complete, restart your computer, bitch" dialogue to go away without actually restarting the computer? I've got a few things running that I can't get back if I restart (I'll have to start over, and they're gonna take quite awhile), and I want to go to bed and still keep them running.

There's no way that I'm aware of (although if someone has a good one, please mention it, I'd like it as well.) However, it won't reset itself if left alone, so if you're worried it might while you're idle? Don't be.

It will. I forgot to turn it off, so it's giving me the "Restart in 5 minutes" thing where I have to manually say "Fuck off" every time.

I never update windows. I hardly even trust them anymroe. I actually bought a legit copy, installed it and updated. Then it said this copy appears to be pirated and it wouldnt let me start up windows anymore. WTF?!?!?!?!!??! I wanted to take a shit on the CD and mail it back to microsoft.

Mine isn't legit, but eventually I'll be reinstalling my legit version. Though I don't really need the updates.

What the hell kind of update did you install that it has a 5-minute-or-reset timer? Nothing I ever update needs that.

You can set Automatic Updates to only install and download when you shut down. Use Automatic scheduling at a late time.

yeah the only real way to get around it is to reschedule it or throw the whole updating thing through the window.

god is it ever annoying, i remember playing a few games of EQ and the dumb screen pops up in the middle of a group and forces me to restart my computer. Plus, my firewalls and other programs just love to update at the same time as my windows want to shut down so my entire computer would be restarting multiple times unless i fooled with the scheduling >.<

If you have XP professional or Media center, you can type gpedit.msc in the run box. From there you can disable the message. I can't remember the rest.

I've never had these problems, mainly since I've actually took the time to set it up? Just have it auto update at like 4:30 in the morning and choose to manually install it if you don't want it to automatically do it. Or just turn it off? Tuh-dah!

I love how XP finds ways to fuck people in the ass unexpectedly.

Namely: Updating it only to find out that it installed an update that checks if your version of Windows is legal.

IT'S NOT. THANKS MICROSOFT. AND SUPER MEGA VIP EURO STAR THANKS TO THE PERSON THAT WE GOT THIS COMPUTER FROM. [/not caps i swear to god]

Best part: Keeps reminding me (which I finally tuned off), but now my usually squeaky clean clock icon area now has a stupid task icon there to remind me that it's ILLEGAL LOLZ. And this entire update:

Can't uninstall it. Fuckers...

Lol.... If you are really that pissed with Micro$oft, just use Linux! =P

On a more serious note, the best way to deal with the window is to switch off the update stuff completely, like what everyone here said... Or maybe an autoclicker to click on the right buttons to make it go away?
