Default Free MC Boot 1.6 Review

============================
*Disclaimer*
This review does NOT have instructions on how to install Free MC Boot, how to install the independence exploit, or how rip and burn games. This review also will NOT have links to any website containing said instructions, or any programs mentioned. Also I have asked a mod whether or not it would be ok to post this, but I have not received any answer yet. Take it down and send me a message if there is a problem.
============================

Free MC Boot is an ELF launcher, similar to uLaunchELF and other ELF launchers, that not only runs off the memory card (eliminating the need of a boot disc), but allows direct booting from the main PS2 menu. You can also assign certain ELF files to buttons on the PS2 controller so that when you hold the button while booting the PS2, it skips directly to that elf. You can also assign a program to be started without holding a button at all and without overwriting the boot file itself. Also, this works on BOTH SLIM AND FAT PS2s!

Now while the installation process seems very convoluted, it's actually not that bad once you sort everything out. You will need to find a way to launch elf files (via the independence exploit or other means), a USB stick, and a memory card (duh). The only problem with the installation is that you have to inject a file into your PS2 firmware (which can be removed) that can cause your PS2 to be stuck at the browser screen if something goes wrong with the install process (you gotta be a complete idiot for it or have a faulty PS2 for it to fail though). Fortunately they have an easy method of fixing it.

So I warn you: INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK!

The install tutorial recommends also installing these programs (links are given on the tutorial):
uLaunchELF: the best file manager/elf launcher around right now
SMS: I haven't used this, but I think it's a media player of some kind
ESR: AMAZING program. Fools the PS2 into thinking patched backups are DVDs, then boots them without hard modding or swapping.
HDLoader: Boot games ripped to a hardrive
FMCB Configurator: Configures Free MC Boot (if you don't get this then you will not be able to change your settings)

I insist you get cogswap as well (unless you have swap magic). How else are you going to play your legit copies of your favorite game?

I recommend this to anyone currently using the independence exploit or anyone who is thinking about soft modding their ps2. While the install process is sort of confusing at first, the end result is well worth it.

I give it 10 flaming frogs riding turtles out of 10.
