Homemade DDR Machine

I really didn't know were this would go in terms of subject but since it has to do stepmania in a way and it will be a simulation I posted it here, but enough of the short talk let me get to the subject. I recently saw a video in youtube that had a guy playing his own ddr machine, it was crude and simple but it sparked an idea in my head to make my own. I've seen a number of videos on how to create your own pad but thats not enough. So if you have any comments or suggestions to help me in this plz feel free to post .
