Marketplace Rating: 0 | Homophobia Sucks (part 2) As a gay male Latino american, life is more difficult than one may think. From the day I knew I was different, I knew life would be a constant challenge. But why? Why does it have to be so difficult? When I'm at my breaking point, I realize: there's no reason why I should be treated differently than any other person. I am no less human than a straight man, but my constant degradation makes it seem otherwise. Blinding steryotypes fuel everyday homophobia, homophobia which is rampant amonst not only children, but adults. The same homophobia depicts us as monsters. Stereotypes that blind reinforce uneducated opinions.
My gift of individuality is not a gift, but more of a curse. Every day, the slurs: "Faggot, homo, queer" ring through my ears. If people were less hateful and more loving, more HUMAN, it would be a gift. But why are we as human beings persecuted?
Our country gave birth to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights. As a part of this, as an American, I'm entitled to the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. When gays are targeted in hate crimes, such as Matthew Shepherd, it is hard to excercise these rights. America is a place of diversity, a "melting pot" so to speak. The rights that our forefathers secured for us do not exclude gays.
Less than FIVE years ago, we witnessed a catastrophic event in our history known as 9/11. Thousands of americans, some being white, some being black, spanish, asian, some straight, some gay, were murdered. As a result of this horiffic tradgedy, we as AMERICANS were united, and we temporarily threw away our personal grudges with others to mourn the loss of Americans. But WHY should we only be united in times of strife and violence? The name of the land we live in is the United States of America. When we live a life of hatred amongst other americans, we are not truely united, but divided.
Not as a gay man, but as a human being and american, I ask you to dig deep into your heart and ask, "Is hatred truely American?"

I'm gay as hell and the words faggot, homo and queer don't bother me at all, I use them all the time. Stereotypes will continue to be reinforced because there ARE gay people in this country and in the world that still feel like they have to be stereotypically homosexual. Also, the whole fact that we have entire festivals and conventions to celebrate our gayness doesn't help the fact that we're treated differently.
We will continue to be treated differently because we act differently. | |

I know you're gay, and I still like you, I don't care if you're gay, or you rape sheep, or whatever, you're still chill, but bringing it up all the time like this is kinda lame.

Take Hurricane Katrina for example: immediately after it struck everyone was so empathetic towards those who were damaged. But some time afterwards the blindly religious groups tried to use it for their advantage, saying that the most damage occured in the gay areas. I find it odd how several people take pride in what they hate.

Guess not.

I think you're a cool guy, albeit strange at times. We all have our weird quirks anyway...

Hate is not just disliking something, it's the absolute bottom of caring for something. If you were givien a chance to get rid of something you HATE, you'd do it. Now, what I don't understand is people who are in the minority sometimes having hate on others for being gay. They struggled and will, just like you had, and did.
Also, Pat Robbinson from 700 club said Katrina happened because Elene DeGenours(spelt wrong) was born there. I mean, is this fucking idiot serious?

As far as the thread's concerned, I can agree to an extent, just not on the level of being gay (I'm as straight as an arrow, just ask my girlfriend). I happen to be discriminated against for being catholic, by all kinds of people, including other 'christians.'

BTW: Have I told you you're cute? Oh those light brown eyes...:p
