IMPORTANT: Do you PLAY Pop'n Music?

I've noticed a really large trend in this forum to stray mostly towards character discussion, fanart, and sng discussion, rather than gameplay. This is the equivalent of every other topic in the IIDX forum being about GOLI's artwork, and for those of us who are hardcore Pop'n players, it can be a bit annoying.

However, I'm wondering who's here to discuss characters versus who's here to discss Pop'n as a game, so I can propose to the admins that we make a Pop'n characters/non-gameplay subforum for these topics.

looking at the threads just now, of the 20 non-stickied that its showing me, only 3 are character related and 3 are song related with two of those locked. is it the number of threads being created about these that bothers you or the amount of discussion in those threads?

It seems like the popn forum has slowed down recently (which may just be my perception) and if there was a subforum for the character/song/etc. discussion there might not be very much discussion going on in the main forum. Its unfortunate too, because popn deserves as much discussion and people being excited about it as IIDX. I actually like popn more than IIDX now (oh no blasphemy).

i think more people just need to start playing popn and start meaningful discussion, instead of just making threads that are pointless or require a quick answer and get locked immediately. then you probably wouldnt notice or care about the character/song threads.

also ill be much more interested in gameplay discussion when im playing on my dj dao controller instead of my popn mini

It's the issue that I think some of the most active posters in the forum don't even play the game.

And the fact that there are probably 10 threads made by d.j. john that could be put in either the beginner/technique thread or CS discussion threads. Worst of all the "Discuss Your Favoutire Pon'n Music Character" thread was started as a joke and got completely out of hand.

And there are 3 threads about how kawaii the characters are, 5 about songs and 5 that could either be resolved by the poster reading the CS discussion threads or controller FAQs.

i agree that this is a big part of the problem, but i dont see how a subforum would help. just make sure that people know newb questions go in the beginner thread. also, you cant really deny that at least he is actually playing the game (not that that makes up for it)

i dont think the problem with the forum right now is character/song discussion, its the fact that it was cluttered with a bunch of unnecessary threads. and really, if anyone wants to create a thread with a worthwhile topic for gameplay discussion, theres nothing stopping them

If you read the first post in that thread "Yuli is cute ^_~", it's a joke. It wasn't supposed to turn into a fangay fest like the "discuss the pump girls" thread in the pump forum. It really does a good job of making everyone on that forum looking like an annoying otaku fuck and destroying the reputation.

ok yeah i dont really like a fangay fest, but should character discussion get a subforum just because of that?

At the moment, i'm not here to discuss either gameplay OR characters etc., but in a couple of days when my games and djdao controller get here, its all about the gameplay over here.

I play. And I tend to check here to see if people are discussing anything interesting, but usually end up not reading any new threads since they all seem to be about which character is the cutest and whatnot.
I dunno about creating a sub-forum though, I'm kinda more into the theory that that would end up with no posts at all in the gameplay forum.

To be perfectly honest, I can't think of things to discuss about the gameplay. I really really love the games, and play frequently, but I don't really feel I have anything to say about them, at least nothing people here don't already know better than me.

I believe this is the crux of the issue. It's just one of those things inherent to the genre. It's not like an RPG forum, where asking "How do I beat this boss?" can yield many varying and useful answers. "How do I beat this song?" is pretty much: "Play other songs and get better." Now of course that changes when you get to high level (40+) stuff, when suddenly actual strategies start popping up (POPPING GET IT)--but these players are, I think, a minor subset of the actual Pop'n community.

So, in the end, I'd say there's nothing to be fixed (except the note-chart parser; HUZZAH!).
