Mines are a little throw-in from StepMania that causes you to lose your health bar when that panel is active. Depending on the song, it's either a way to strategize your footwork or a plain, dumb annoyance.

they are the grey disks with a red center. If you hit them (your foot is on the correct arrow) you will lose some life and some dance points, but your combo will not break.

You do not have to press the arrow at the right time in order to hit the mine, your foot just has to be on the arrow.

No. You don't hit them. If you hit them you lose health, if you don't hit them your health stays the same.
