PINOYSTYLE
Stepmania and O2Mania Simfile Competition
RULES!!! (AND REGULATIONS…)
I. Introduction:
Pinoystyle is a simfile competition for Stepmania and O2Mania. The goal is to produce a quality DDR stepchart / O2jam notechart for the song of the player’s choice. There will be cash prizes wink.gif
II. Eligibility:
Anyone based in Luzon may join, as long as he/she is able to head to Metro Manila at a moment’s notice, particularly during the awarding ceremonies that will be held at the end of the competition.
III. Official Rules:
A. Files and Songs
1. There will be two file brackets: Stepmania and O2Mania. There will be an official file type for each bracket: SM for Stepmania and BMS for O2Mania. A player may only enter one song per bracket, though multiple people may work on a song.
2. The song can be any song that the author wants. However, songs from the following games are not allowed to be entered in the competition:
- Dance Dance Revolution
- Pump it Up
- EZ2Dancer
- Techno Motion
- Dance Maniax
3. The song must be cut to a valid length: for Stepmania, this will be 2:30; for O2Mania, this will be 3:00. There will be deductions for songs that exceed the given limits. (1 pt. for every 2 seconds for Stepmania) I suggest using Goldwave for this.
4. The songs must be saved to MP3 format, at 128 - 160 kbps (stereo). If the song is not of this quality, it will be converted by the judges; however, there will be a 5 point deduction.
B. Stepmania Files
1. The step files shall be in SM format, the default Stepmania file format. Submissions must be zipped or RARed. The ZIP / RAR file must include the following:
- Background (in PNG format) – 640 x 480 size
- Banner (in PNG format) – 256 x 80 size
- SM file
- Background videos (in DivX / XVid AVI format – if any) – 320 x 240 size
- Music file (in MP3 format).
So for example, an entry named “over there” would have the following files:
- overthere-bg.png
- overthere-bn.png
- overthere.sm
- overthere01.avi
- overthere.mp3
2. The background file must include the song name ONLY. You are not allowed to use alpha channels. Note that THIS WILL BE JUDGED.
3. The banner file must include the song name AND artist. You are not allowed to use alpha channels. Note that THIS WILL ALSO BE JUDGED.
4. The SM file must contain the following charts:
- Singles Easy, Singles Medium, Singles Hard.
- These are for pad, not keyboard. They will be checked for any pad errors.
5. The AVI files must be in the specified format, and must be invoked by the SM file.
6. The SM file must be properly synched with the music—deductions will be given to files which are not on-time. The BPM must also be correct. If you do not know how to calculate BPMs manually, you might want to use a BPM Analyzer program such as MixMeister BPM Analyzer. However, do not use the exact BPM it gives you—in some cases, you may want to round down or round up.
7. As much as possible, the song must be danceable. Avoid using hard rock Pinoy songs, as much as possible—they tend to have no viable pattern.
8. NO 10-footers for ANY of the 3 CHARTS!! You may make Challenge charts for that purpose, but they WILL NOT BE JUDGED!
C. O2Mania Files:
1. The notecharts must be in BMS format. Do not forget #LNTYPE 01! Submissions must be ZIPped or RARed. The ZIP / RAR file must contain the following:
- BMS files (name of bms – songdiff.BMS – ex. overthereNORMAL.bms)
- MP3 of song (sound quality same as SM)
2. You must have 2 charts: NORMAL AND HARD. As much as possible, make them ergonomic.
3. Make sure that the BMS is in sync with the music, and that the timing is good AT THE STRICTEST SETTING. However, judging will be done at Judge Level 2 (the Normal setting).
4. Any song will do, as long as you can make interesting note charts with it.
Examples of good note charts:
- Astral
- Euphorium
- V3 (O2 version)
- Fly Magpie
Examples of bad note charts:
- Red Sign
- Earthquake
- All SHDs
