SM and DWI BG vids thread - Page 3

I really hope this is the proper thread to post in...

I just edited a music video for an original simfile I'm making, using VirtualDub, which is an open source thingy. Problem is, I now can't strip the audio from it, which I'm pretty sure is necessary to do before loading it into Stepmania. So I need to know how to do that.

It'd also be nice if I could save the AVI without it being a gig and a half in size.

It seriously confuses me. Maybe someone here knows a bit more about VirtualDub and can help me out.

Wow. I'm rather amazed that the work we all did so long ago is still being used and appreciated. Thanks to all those who are still working on this. Makes me feel like all those long hours compiling and editing names/scripts was actually worth something.

1. Open the AVI in VirtualDubMod
2. Go to Streams -> Stream List, select the audio track, click Demux, and choose a filename. Now you've got an mp3.
3. Click Disable, then OK to leave the Stream List.
3. Go to File -> Save As, select "Direct stream copy" under Video mode, choose a new filename, and save. Now you've got a muted background video.

Don't create uncompressed video files! When you are in "Save As" look at the bottom of the window. Click the "Change" tab. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select XVid. If you don't have XVid, get it.

I honestly have no idea. I have an archive of everything I had somewhere on my other computer. When I get a chance, I'll take a look through that and see if I can post what I have.

Other than that answer, I really can't help much with all this stuff. I haven't touched any of it for about 2 years, and have forgotten most everything we did back then. I'd like to get back into this stuff, but school and work eat up much pretty much all of my time.

Ollec, I noticed in the 3.95 and 4.0 builds the Loop Off and Rewind cannot happen at once, due to a new interface for bg changes in the editor. Have you noticed that? Beware's scripts also had that, too. Besides, I can't find any difference between the loop option. Even if it is off, the video still loops.

I haven't touched any sims in about 2 years. Just don't have that interest anymore. So no, I haven't noticed that.

These scripts were coded probably about 3 years ago, just as SM started it's 3.9 alpha testing phase, if not before. They probably haven't been updated in a while to work with any of the newer changes. Remember, this was back when DWI was still popular and was the more commonly used program. Most of these scripts started as .dwi files, and were only switched to the .sm format when the better bg scripting came out. I'm sure there's lots of stuff that could be done to them to improve their performance.

I honestly never did much with scripting. It was all the other stuff that I did (organizing, renaming files to match, etc.). Saotome2U, MagMarioX, and a few others did the scripts. I just helped out on the other tedious stuff.

Now, does anyone know where to find background videos and scripts from the Ultramix games? I want them and if they're somewhere on the Internet that we can mention, then post a link.

Also, after looking at the ITG demo, I realize that ITG background vids really DO stink. Or at least the ones for Utopia and Zodiac.

And if I'm not mistaken, there IS some overlap between the videos.

I had a neat idea but I'm going to have to figure out exactly how to work this. I'm thinking about replacing the dancing characters on my stepmania with videos of my friends dancing instead. Like make a video of them dancing to a ddr song and then set it so that video plays when you select that song and yeah...I have my own real life dancing character. I'm thinking about doing one person per song kinda like how Super nova does one character at a time.
