Sony turning into microsoft

Sony is apparently on the warpath to monopolizing the consumer electronics industry. Any of you guys notice that?

I'll disagree. The only real "monopolies" I can think of in Sony tech offhand are their proprietary formats, which are only qualified as such since nobody else pays to use them.

Now, if you give examples, I can put up a better argument and/or be better convinced. Sorry, but it's almost 2 in the morning and I'm not about to hunt through all of what Sony sells.

UMD doesnt count. If you look at it that way, for example, nintendo's gba cartridge or what ever would be monopoly either.

Uh monopolies only occur when consumers adopt the technologies in question and I would hesitate to say that many of their proprietary formats have seen smashing widespread success

so something like...

SD card = monopoly (cause almost every thinkable digital device uses them)
DVD = monopoly (cause nearly everything is on dvd)

Right, but that would only be a monopoly if only one company made them. Were UMD to have actually caught on and been used in other devices, then Sony may have had a chance at a monopoly on that, but nobody really cared.

I never said they were good monopolies, I just said those were the only friggin' things I knew of they had a monopoly on, and only since nobody else fucking uses most of them.

But anyway. Did I miss something they took over on? Because last I recall, any field they're in has competition.

so conclusion is... its nonsense that they are on a warpath to monopolize, because they have competition everywhere, they just make their stuff a bit on the expensive side.. and i dont think they took over something lol

make some ps3's for europe 1st, then go take over companies Xp
