Question Stupid newbie questions!

Hi, I'm a newbie and I have some stupid newbie questions...

I've tried looking at the FAQ, but it doesn't seem to cover these, and my searches are turning up too much "noise" for me to find anything relevant, so if anyone could point me to a thread that will address them, it'd be greatly appreciated. And if this isn't the appropriate forum to ask these in, please feel free to move the post to wherever it should be. (I almost put it in Help, but the forum description seemed to intend technical Q&A.) Either way, please don't hurt me.

1. What are the tokens all about? I understand that they're used to purchase things in the Token Shop (hey, a forum with unlocks!), but I seem to have acquired some and I don't know why. Are they just based on how long you've been a member, or what?

2. What are the "rep" LEDs below a person's info?

3. What are the ribbon icons below a person's info? When I hover over one I get a list of... things one might conceivably wear such a ribbon for, I guess. What do they do when you click on them? I'm ashamed to admit this, but I'm too skeerd to experiment and find out.

4. Is there an appropriate forum for questions about importing games in general, or should I just pick a game forum and ask in there? I've tracked down some online importers, and I would kill to get Pop'n Music and some of the Asian releases of IIDX, but I'd love to hear that other people have had good experiences with these sites before I shell out a bunch of money.

Ugh!! I need to learn to be more concise. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply, and to anyone who took the time to read through my babble in the first place.

1. You can receive tokens for various other things not mentioned anywhere. Up to you to figure out what they are.

2. Rep is dumb don't pay any attention to it. Though, if you hae negative rep (red), you will receive no tokens.

3. Ribbons merely show awareness of something, such as AIDS.

4. Hell if I know.

Go to the top where it says "Token Shops" and click on "Forum Shop" for things for the forum, and "Media Shop" if you want videos and stuff.

Also, Arkaaito, for a quick guide on what NOT to do, just look at 3cmrg3's profile and flip through his posts.

It makes me smile to see people like that banned. (You, on the other hand, seem to be doing well so far. Go you!)

edit: no, apparently someone has de-repped you. Hmm. Well, if nothing else, expect good things later from me, a view of your posts suggests nothing bad.

Well, the first thing he did was post a newbie questions thread... aw crud.

But anyway, thanks for the reply/reassurance and kind words. (And thanks to everyone else for the answers.) Hopefully my ability to type in English will help balance out my frequent inability to keep from waxing adulatory about Bemani...

(Now if I could just learn to quit drowning every discussion I try to get involved in with a sea of words, that would be great.)

"Posting" pictures you can't do.

Linking them, however, can be done in one of two ways: for a huge image, I'd suggest linking it, which can be done with the following trick:
[-url](image address)[/url] (remove the "-" to get it to work).
For a small one, just replace "url" with "img" and you're set.

By the way, if you need somewhere to post the pictures so you can link to them here, there are popular sites called ImageShack and PhotoBucket where you can upload such things (for free). I personally like ImageShack, since images don't expire, but I've seen plenty of people use both.

(Sorry if you already knew about that - not sure just how newbish you are.)

I'm sure that you could probably make a thread about this in Other Gaming I think.

But, just to alleviate your fears, play-asia (http://www.play-asia.com) and NCS (http://www.ncsx.com) are two online retailers that I've either gone through or I've known people to go through and they have all been happy so far. You can take a gamble with trying to get some copies of the games used off of Yahoo!Auctions of Japan by using a middle man website, but it's nice to get new copies of games.

I ordered IIDX RED from Play-asia.com and it came relatively quick considering the shipping wasnt that expensive and it came from Hong Kong.

The 1 to 8 is based on the number of posts you have.

He could have more tokens than you because his posts are longer than yours? He didn't spend any? Who knows. It could be a whole list of things.
