i found one hell of an article about some bills currently on the table. i cant see these getting passed but i would feel bad for the states that did. the thing is its so far out there they i don't think its even remotely possible. you cant monitor everyone. but yea, what do you guys thing about all this?

Here is one example of the far-reaching harmful effects of these bills. Both bills would flatly ban the possession, sale, or use of technologies that “conceal from a communication service provider … the existence or place of origin or destination of any communication”. Your ISP is a communication service provider, so anything that concealed the origin or destination of any communication from your ISP would be illegal — with no exceptions.
If you send or receive your email via an encrypted connection, you’re in violation, because the “To” and “From” lines of the emails are concealed from your ISP by encryption. (The encryption conceals the destinations of outgoing messages, and the sources of incoming messages.)

First, it's spelled "article." For the love of christ learn how to spell.

Second, this would not stop people from using firewalls. A firewall is a logical barrier designed to prevent unauthorized or unwanted communications between sections of a computer network. When a firewall is used correctly, and not in conjunction with NAT, you would not be in violation of said bill.

Third, ISPs would be able to trace any outgoing packets from your router / firewall to your connection, despite the fact that you may have various computers behind that router / firewall. With a large corporation or a school, I can see this being an issue, but if your IP shows up and it's linked to you and you have like, 2 computers, guess who's door they are going to bang down?

heh,i just have a bad habit of not looking over what i type.
Anyway, there are some major problems with it and i'm just about 100% sure it wont get passed, but it still kills me what they try and get passed.

They can't make wireless routers illegal, too many people have them and are used to having them in the home. They might as well make us live in caves and hunt animals...
