Well, I reformatted as some of you might know and now my videos aren't working. wmv's are playing fine in Windows Media Player 11, however, any other type of file in any other program will make my cpu fly up to 100 and then everything goes to shit and I have to hold the power button. I've tried getting codecs but it doesn't seem to help... Any ideas on why this is happening?

All video formats, excluding wmv.
"did you download any type of mega codec pack?"
Yes, but it didn't cause any problems before I had reformatted.

EDIT: and by installed I mean I did them one at a time and then removed them to single out any problems, but the same result occured every time.

Total Tokens: 5,143.06 Donate Tokens | VLC doesn't work for shit anymore. It used to play everything I had, including reading my video_ts folders. KMPlayer just did what I expected, lagged like crap and crashed the comp. I'm not sure I want to even bother with GOM player.
I suppose I could just try converting everything to wmv... -_-

Downloaded the CCCP codec pack and it has an option in the installer to reset settings. Everything works great.
If anyone is interested, here's the site: http://www.cccp-project.net/
EDIT: So, after restarting my comp, video issues are back. I've been able to get my fraps videos(avi) to play and wmv's still work, but other than that, no dice.
I don't get why the Fraps avi files work, but other avi files don't...

Then you need to restart your computer.
Then you need to run a registry cleaner.
Then you need to restart your computer *AGAIN*
Then you need to reinstall Windows Media Player
Restart your computer again.
Install CCCP Again.
Restart your computer one last time
Try and play a video.
Edit:
Codecs are WICKEDLY finiky beasts. DO NOT SKIP THE RESTART YOUR COMPUTER STEPS. FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS AS THEY ARE PROVIDED AND IT SHOULD FIX YOUR PROBLEM.

Example of my everything in a sentence.
There is a stapler, a pencil, and a piece of paper on a desk.
"Take everything off the desk."
Now you have to remove the stapler, the pencil, and the piece of paper.

Total Tokens: 5,143.06 Donate Tokens | Alright, so, I removed all of the codecs for video and all of the audio except for "Ogg Vorbis Audio CODEC" because it won't come off for some reason and Mocrisoft PCM Converter because it said that it's required for Windows to function properly. Restart the computer and, what the hell, all the video codecs are back...
I'll continue with your procedure, but I don't think that was supposed to happen.
EDIT: I continued with the rest and I am having the same problems. Maybe I should just reformat, which at this point, I'm willing to do.
