Ok, so. I reformatted and got CCCP installed and now videos go straight for the kill and the computer restarts immediatly instead of the lag, freeze, hopefully shut down properly.

EDIT: Well, for whatever reason, the immediate crashing has stopped, but now I'm getting that lag, blah, blah. And to add one more thing, wmv files no longer work. yay...

Then theres actually a chance it is your video card

Have you:
Physically abused it?
Overclocked it?
Used an Auto Overclock on it?
Ran something it was CLEARLY not capible of doing for a long time?

I have done nothing to it other than physically install it and install the drivers.

I'll swap it out and see what happens.

EDIT: I inserted the original GeForce 5200 that came with this and I ran into the same problem. Something to note: Video plays fine in safe mode with both cards.

People have been saying to do this through the bios, but I can't find anywhere in my bios to do it. Is there software or something that I should use?

I'm sorry katze, but there's nothing in there about my agp bus. The only thing that has anything to do with graphics is whether I use pci or agp as my default boot setting.

Unless it has something to do with the parallel settings, but I'm pretty sure it does not.

EDIT: Could this be a problem with the motherboard battery? For some reason, I updated the bios and then when I went in after restarting the computer, it had reverted back to the older version. When I change settings and go back, things are set back to default. And before you say it, yes, I am saving before I exit.

Somehow I highly dobut it, but do these things in this order then:

1. go to radio shack. Get the battery

2. flip the jumper on your board to CMOS Erase (to clear the settings of your bios)

3. Turn the computer on to make that mean something

4. Put the new battery in

5. Start the computer and reset your settings.

There should be an AGP Bus Speed option with either 4x or 8x somewhere. hmm... What bios are you running?

Uh, I'm not exactly sure what to say. Here's a screenshot of the registry.

Oh, it's American Megatrends Inc. 3.11, 8/31/2004
SMBIOS version 2.3
(or so says msinfo32)

It should be under advanced chipset configuration from the main menu, Also try changing the AGP Apature size
