Pop'n is so Japanese, it's all in Japanese unlike IIDX. Or some such shit.

American Pop'n? The japanese Pop'n is easy enough to navigate since all (or most at least) it's menus are in english. Mod your PS2 and import the games, its worth it.

Yeah, but the game is so terribly Japanese in Japan that I don't know if it could translate well into American standards.

I mean, they'd have to pull a Namco and release a totally new mix in America, a la Taiko, if they wanted the game to somewhat do well here.

The Mechanic itself is fun and easy to pick up, but the game itself and its songs are soooooo terribly overwhelmingly japanese that simple song transplants wouldn't transfer well overseas I don't think.

North Americans would see pop'n music as a game just for little kids, which is way different than pop'n music in Japan or other Asian countries, which is popular for most age groups. That is similar to Taiko no Tatsujin (太鼓の達人) (Taiko Drum Master).

OK

I always hear crap as in how this game is too JP to ever be established here in the US. Why couldn't they make american music? Some of the songs on Pop'n (and quite a few though) would be perfect transplants to an american mix.

Take examples for Holy Forest and Absolute ~Rock Mix~: I think these two would be extremly popular here in the US if Pop'N made a debut. However, they'd probably have to change the title of the game, because you'll get smartasses wondering "What the hell is Pop'N?"

I dunno, Holy Forest is a pretty cheesy song :P

I think if I tried to play it for anyone I knew it'd get mocked quite mercilessly.

Jack might be a better choice.

I dunno, lots of songs could be mocked. But the good thing about Pop'n is that there is a lot of genres.

I don't see PNM as an american title. I just can't. Sounds like a broken record by now but it IS way to japanese in itself.

Well, to me, the game has much appeal.
To master it, you need lots of skill.
PLUS, how many rhythm games are out there that don't involve dancing in mainstream arcade games?

Very few arcades have nothing but the dance game.
If marketed CORRECTLY, this game could reach huge status in the US.

No, this game would go no where. IIDX, when correctly marketed here could do incredibly well, it's actually about something. Pop'n... not so much.
