Eventually I'm going to get one of these ASCs, but there are so many different kinds.
Ransai
Konami
DjDao
Desktop Arcade
I can import a Konami one from Yahoo Japan Auctions but it'll end up costing me like 450. The DjDao is really nice looking and is only 190 plus 100 shipping....
The wait list for Ransai pretty much makes that out of the question.
So what is the best Pop'n ASC?
I know this is probably a silly question but I really don't know

Also, after the current batch, Ransai will no longer be making controllers.

Some people like the Konami ASC, but general consensus is that it feels/sounds terrible and that it's hard to fix.

The Dao is a little over $300 shipped if you live in the US.

I've only heard problems about the official ASC which can wear down with time. With those 2, you probably aren't going to break anything except a microswitch, which is replaceable. With the DAO, be sure to get an extra set if possble, because they can be a pain to find around the US. (unless you have some arcade games with Japanese controls already)
wait time with DA? yes for me. It took 3 or 4 months, and I had no idea when I would see it, but it did finally arrive.

This applies to everything honestly
If you do get a dj dao, I highly recommend you buy the following:
1) A soldering iron (cost like 10 bucks at Radio Shack)
2) An extra PCB board from dj dao (3 bucks at the most)

Total Tokens: 301.38 Donate Tokens | Rather than further clutter up the DJ Dao topic, I thought I'd ask here:
Which microswitches do people generally prefer between Cherry and Omron? I remember hearing that Cherry switches are more sensitive, but I haven't read much else. I'm getting ready to get a DJ Dao Pop'n ASC and I don't really know the difference.
Thanks. | |
