Default Building... the Pop'n Coffee Table

So my home can't hold another plastic music instrument. Rock Band drums, PIU and DDR pads, IIDX controllers, Guitar Hero guitars, Tatacons... it's a mess.

I used to own an arcade-style Pop'n controller I built from scratch- but had to get rid of it during a cross-country move. So here's an idea- build my next pop'n controller-

INTO MY COFFEE TABLE. (duh-duh-duhhhhh)

But I'd have to start from scratch again- coffee table and all. Here's a few things that need to get straightened out before I start this most-arduous project:

1. What coffee table to buy? (Note that it's gotta be somewhat flimsy and... uh... made of wood. Gotta power-drill my holes, you know.)

2. Is there some inventive way to keep it as a coffee table when pop'n's not in use? You guys are smarter than me, after all.

3. I have a daughter... a very... shall we say, curious daughter. So obviously, the innards need to be enclosed (albeit as compact as possible to preserve the coffee table-ness), but the PS controller cord needs to be hidden for the most part as well. Maybe staple the extra give onto the side of one of the legs?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I can't wait to start!

So i'm at work and bored and thought this was neat so I did this is a VERY VERY ruff MS PAINT sketch

Ok so what you would do is build a panel into the table that the controller sits on/in. This panel is held on by hinges. When the game isn't being played you would have a panel that fits over top the hole so as to inclose it without any one (daughter) being able to see it/touch it. When you are ready to play, you would open one of the side doors and simply just push the controller up through the now open panel and it would fit into place like that. As for the cord, you could build a removable plug panel at the bottom so that when your ready to play you just remove the plug and plug in the cord to the PS2.

Another way would be to make the controller be able to flip upside down and into the table when not in use.

That, or glass...

I had thought about Glass orginally as well but he said he had a daughter, to which i assume would be very young. In which case glass wouldn't be as great an option

Who cares if it's glass. Just don't put it near the child/don't let the child near the glass.

Children and glass are fine as long as it is tempered and the edges are not too sharp.
